Burleigh Heads is part of the Gold Coast, is well known as a surfing location and sits between Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise on the Queensland coast.
Like most of the Gold Coast, Burleigh Heads is full of natural beauty from the beaches to Burleigh Heads National Park, which is located on the northern headland and features two popular walking tracks, one around the base and another taking hikers to the almost 100m-high peak.
Originally named Burly Head by surveyor J.R. Warner in 1840, the name later evolved to be spelled Burleigh, for no apparent reason.
You’ll also find the well known David Fleay Wildlife Park. The park is managed by the Environmental Protection Agency and is home to endangered species and other native animals in a habitat close to what they would experience in nature.
David Fleay was a naturalist best known for being the first person to breed the platypus in captivity.
In contrast to the stereotypical idea of the Gold Coast being loud and flashy, Burleigh Heads is seen as a more relaxed, low-key location without the over-abundance of high-rise apartments and is considered a more family friendly get-away by many, especially due to its convenient location, being around 90km from Brisbane’s centre.
As well as a popular tourist destination, Burleigh Heads is also home to a population of more than 7000 people, many of whom live on the man made waterways in suburbs such as Burleigh Waters.
On West Burleigh Road, not too far from the Gold Coast Highway, you’ll find the area’s main shopping centre, Stockland. Stockland has over 100 specialty stores as well as Woolworths, IGA and Big W and all the usual facilities you’d expect from a major shopping centre.
For the beer drinkers you can’t go past the Burleigh Brewing company. For connoisseurs of the amber ale they produce the Duke range of all natural beers. You can even take a tour of their brewery as well as taste the internationally awarded beers they brew.
What more can you ask for than natural beauty and good beer?
EmilyLou’se reviewed UP’n GO Plumbing

Out About reviewed Mermaids Restaurant and Bar
This place is a real gem. Unlike most great locations which serve very average food to unsuspecting tourists Mermaids really delivers a top quality food and service experience. Being from Sydney I was sceptical about the amazinng location but was dragged here by my Melbourne friends (who are now Burleigh Heads locals...)- they know a good place when they find one. I enjoyed a freshly made juice, bacon/eggs, thick toast and hash brown and good coffee - breakfast here matched the best we’ve experienced as a Sydney-sider and the view is stunning - service was also good and the price very reasonable for this quality. Would definately recommend.
