The food is ok ( I wouldn't say spectacular, but I guesss you can't get that for such a low price), the place is beaten up, needs freshing up and the service is at its minnimum. You do get however a full plate of food for a low price which I guess is a plus when eating out on a budget.
This is really one of the best possible choices for a cheap Chinese meal in the area. The food is very good indeed for the price (mostly $8-12). There are some eccentric items on the menu - things that don't go together to a western palate, such as corned beef with scrambled egg on rice. This is actually the jellyish canned sort of corned beef, with a big mess of scrambled-egg-cum-omlette on top of a big heap of rice, and some of the usual steamed Choy Sum or whatever. Everything tastes good and there's a lot of it but you're not sure whether it all works on the same plate. However they also have a range of the more usual things and do them very well. The decor is simple but nice. The staff are generally quite friendly - they look like students - and the management will remember you and welcome you if you are a regular. It's usually fairly crowded and quite noisy, though there is almost always a spare table, with quite a lot of Asian customers who also mostly look like students. It's cheerful and you get the impression that everybody, staff and customers, is having fun. The only drawback is that they play the more terrible type of sentimental Chinese pop music and often they play it REALLY LOUDLY (bring your mp3 player). Definitely one of the best deals around.
This little gem is a regular for me and my partner and whenever we take people out we take them here. The food is always good, there's always hot tea and the prices are so cheap! It's not a fancy place by any means but they deliver what they offer very well and I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Chinese food.
The best chinese restaurant I've been to in ages. Free chinese tea too. They were quick, cheap and tasty. Well patronised by asians, which is a good sign.
