    DO NOT USE. Cheap and nasty. Hire a filthy, unkempt car and they tell you "what do you expect for the money" when you pick it up, without prompting. Pay a little more and save yourself the hassle. Do not deal with them. And yes, forget about a refund and hope they don't make damage claims against you.

    Don't ever rent with this company. Their vehicles and customer service is totally second rate. I had an important meeting to get to and when I went to start the car the battery was flat. It took 2.5 hours for the road staff to turn up. I had rented the vehicle for 7 days, returned it after 2 because it was so awful. I was told the refund had to go through customer service and that they would call me. They didn't call, so I called, and called and called! They are never available on the phone. We never received a refund and to this day they still owe me a refund. Do not go anywhere near them.

    I am about to rent with abel for probably around the 7th time, and I was just on here to see what other people thought about a service that I found to be pretty good.

    I always go to the city office, because I can get there from the train station very easily, which means I don't have to find someone to take me in, and the people there are always super friendly to me, get my rental done in record time and I'm out and driving with no issues.

    I don't really see how the people below have such a horrible time - everything you need to know is in the contract, if you read it, which I always do before I sign anything. And any time I've had any problems, I've just called the 1300 number and asked them what's going on, and they are always helpful.

    It just seems that everyone here is happy to leave anonymous complaints about things that seem to me to be pretty petty. If something isn't what you want it to be, tell them! Don't just go ahead with the rental and then complain about it later.

    Renting a car can be a pretty big responsibility, but if you pay attention to what's happening, read what they give you to sign and listen to what they have to say, I don't see what the problem is.

    First of all there was a flashing sign on the website that said join our mailing list and you will get a day free. Then when I did this I got the voucher which was already out of date! I mentioned this in the phone booking and the staff member stated that they would give a 10% discount instead. The booking was made and I had mentioned 2 drivers would be using the car and asked for the total including all fees/charges. The car was then picked up the next day and we were charged an extra amount (apparently for the 2 drivers) even though this was actually stated when booking. We then called the reservations office to be told by the stafff that wouldnt know what to do, they are only following what is on the computer. I explained again that this was not the price quoted and was told well its "way easier to call the reservations team to fix the mistake before you pay". I said I don't believe its my job to call different parts of the company when it is clearly their mistake. The staff member then continued to display a lack of customer service skills and was not able to resolve the issue. Very poor form when they are clearly right next door to a tourish hub and if Brisbane wants people to visit to redeem their economy this isn't the way to do it! Don't use this company as you will spend more time and $ then you need to.

    First of all, i am now convinced that there are better and cheaper car rentals in Brisbane.

    I always thought i was getting a cheap deal from Abel when i rented from them before and seeing their ad to rent cars from $29 was always so promising. I booked a large car during their 'special' promotion for $29 per day for 11 days. As with most people, i compared with other car rental companies and thought that i was getting a good deal with Abel. Little did i realize that the estimate that i got online was nowhere close to what it eventually would cost me. I paid additional $200 on top of everything. The original estimate was not accurate and on the day i had to pickup the car i was told i had to pick it up 3 hours later which ruined my original plans. Due to the short notice, there was no way i could rent with someone else. No consolation benefits and no apologies when i picked the car up. Also, i felt that i was being rushed to drive the car off without proper inspection. Please always check for every little scuff or marks inside and out as you may pay for it later.

    When I asked for an explanation and breakdown of the costs when i returned the car, i was told of it very rudely and was made to feel as though i was taking up their time when there was nobody else waiting. Just a side note, the mileage given is also not clear and very limited at only 100kms per day compared to other car rental places offering 500km per day.

    My wife had rented a medium sized car from another rental company in Brisbane (also starts with A) for the same period, which at first the estimate seemed more expensive but had no hidden costs and no diversion to what was quoted. I defended my choice with hiring with abel initially but after this experience, I have chosen to go with this other car rental.

    Its quite funny really, the last time i rented with abel prior to this time, i was waiting around for the car and i overheard another customer next to me not being very satisfied as his online booking was not right. The 'manager' also made it seemed like the customer was being picky or fussy and that the customer was wrong. I believe that customer now.

    So....word of advice, if you're thinking about it, don't!!

    Get a price match somewhere else. Save yourself some grief. I wish i had read Mr G White's review earlier...

    We had a very good experience with ABEL. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the price was good, and the vehicle was very satisfactory for our needs, comfortable for 4 adults. As I think back on it, I believe we needed to extend our rental time by a day or two and this proved to be no problem at all. I would definitely use this company again when I'm in Brisbane.

    I've used Abel a few times now. I usually only hire for the weekend. They pick me up from my house which is great. Otherwise I would have to catch a taxi which is more cost. The price is the best I've seen which is a big deal for me. Would recommend them others

    The only reason I use Abel is because they are cheap! if I could get a price match from another company I would take it!
    I returned a car at the exact time it was due back, the office was closed. The only attendant had gone to lunch, leaving me sitting on the yard for 15 minutes. Poor management don't you think, only having one staff member?
    Another hire I arranged a collection from my office, confirmed on the day. Got a call 30 minutes before my pick up time as they described it as a "courtesy" call to let me know the driver was not working that day, why wasn't I told when I confirmed?
    Then when I finally got to the office and she was mid booking they decided to have a good old conversation with a walk in customer who had no booking about how every car in Brisbane had been booked that weekend, "that's nice, I would actually like to get going I'm already 2 hours behind thanks".
    I am now trying to book another 1 day hire but for the life of me can not get the "internet booking specials". Why do I have to search the net to find a contracted site to get a booking I should be able to get from them directly?! Well done Abel your leading from the back of the pack!
