    Overall: 1. Beware -what they quote on the phone and what they charge are not the same thing. Lots of hidden charges that if you interrogate simply make no sense. Like location surcharge...Yes folks they charge a surcharge simply because of the location of the depot. Or prices that don't include gst; or codes on the invoice for things that when you ask what they're for they simply can't justify or answer.
    2. When you return the vehicle they'll conveniently find some damage that they will try and pin on you. And when you try in vain to explain you didn't do it, that it was already there, they all but call you a liar, and threaten court action.
    3. One attendant, when challenged about point 1 above simply grabbed his bag said "I've had a gutful'" and walked out.
    I would honestly rate these guys as the worst service I have ever, ever received. Forget about half a star they don't deserve any stars.

    I have done business with Abel Rentacar several times over several years but have found the current staff and management hopeless, very rude, unable to keep their word, and with no integrity or skills when it comes to customer relations. I booked a car over the phone and trusted them as I was a repeat customer, however when I got there it was more expensive than quoted . The defense given was they were new and had made mistakes. No one in reception including the office management was willing to make any decisions to help and a half hour of my time was wasted which made me late for a business meeting I had just flown in for. To get going I just had to accept their higher charges, but documented on their forms that I did not agree with the charges as they were not what was quoted. The vehicle I was given was faulty and after handing it to me they then wanted to change it, but as I was running late I was frustrated and accepted what was offered. I tried to sort this out after, and even had a call from the franchisee who apologized and agreed to repay the extra charges over and above my quote since I had detailed everything for them in my claim. I even received notification from them that they had refunded my credit card, but no refund ever showed up. I have called and emailed about this on multiple occasions, but they will not help me any more, still no refund.... the new accounting management (who issues the refunds) just said it was my problem not theirs! My bank said they never received it so they cannot help and to go back to the merchant. After many many more phone calls and emails, I still have no refund or satisfaction. I have given Abel every courtesy, have been polite (but persistent), never heated but firm, have full documentation to back everything I say, and have been trying to sort this out for over 6 months. On the basis of my experience, I would rate Abel's integrity zero, customer service zero, ability to keep their word zero, putting things right even after apologies in writing zero. I will not deal with with this company ever again.

    The staff were extremely rude!, we hired a truck for 4 days, we also payed an extra $47 per day for insurance that I was led to believe covered everything except if you misuse the vehicle - such as off road or any damage caused by an animal. I payed a total of $689 on pick up.
    well after packing up the truck and starting off on our journey I realised there were no tail lights, interior lights or dash lights. Their reply to this " there is nothing wrong with our trucks' I said what if a car ran up my bum, I HAVE NO TAILLIGHTS - their reply "oh well" !!!!!!
    I returned the truck a day early, we were greeted by a very rude so in so, and were advised that we had to pay $550 for a chip on the window, apparently the extra $47 a day insurance cover did not apply, because I did not get the number plate and details of the truck who drove past me that led to the chip in the window I was then advised that I drove 180 kms over the allowance and was charged a further $90, and also a further $100+ to fill out paperwork for the chip in the window.

    My grand spanking total came to over $1300!

    Abel cars are cheap for a reason - they have rude staff, Seriously pay an extra couple hundred dollars and save your self the heart ache and stress in the future!

    I rented 2 utes of Abel earlier in the year and they picked up staff at the airport and went the extra mile to help us out. Could not fault the service or the price. thanks guys

    Firstly, when I arrived to hire my rental out they told me it was a new car and they were waiting for it to arrive, approx 90 minutes later it arrived and I was on my way. While I had the car someone opened their door up on the rental at a shopping centre and put a dent about the size of a pin head in the door. When I dropped the car back this was noticed and photos were taken, a few weeks later I received a bill for $1350.00. The labour on fixing the car was approx $710.00 and the rest was fee's, thats right, over $600.00 worth of fee's which includes a $300.00 "admin fee" and car hire for 3 full days as they claim it takes 3 days to fix this extremely small piece of damage, which is funny because I know 2 panel beaters who are able to fix the entire front end of a vehicle in the same amount of time. As I neglected to pay this absurd amount I was then eventually hit with $88.00 worth of interest. I can understand the $710.00 to fix the car, then maybe a fair fee on top of that, but no way close to $700.00 worth. While speaking to this company about this debt with them I have found them to be extremely rude, they were happy when I told them I wanted to hire the car for a month, however once the car was dropped back it is a different story. I will pay this money that they want as I don't want them to escalate this further, however, I will never hire through this Rental Car company again and will ensure my family, friends and anyone I know with a business also doesn't. Hire at your own risk.

    I booked over the phone with Abel Rent A Car for a moving truck which appeared to be $199 for the day. I requested the free fridge trolley which I'd seen as an online offer (which wasn't offered to me over the phone). For an upgrade to the heavy duty one for $20, I was given a total of just over $250.
    When my partner went to pick up the truck at 7.45am he was informed that although we had booked it, there were no heavy duty fridge trolley's, or standard trolley's for that matter! That was taken off the bill, and he was charged just over $50 for a day's insurance, bringing the total to $309, and leaving him to search for a fridge trolley when we were meant to be moving.
    When we went to return it that evening, we had to wait for half an hour to be served by the only staff member. I requested a breakdown of the charges, at which point the staff started floundering, unable to explain what the fee's were and unable to reason the total cost.
    It appeared we had been charged an extra 2.5% credit card surcharge, although we hadn't used a credit card. To get our $25 refund back we have to wait for 2 weeks for the paperwork to process. To get our $200 deposit back we have to wait another 7 days.

    Total money spent: Not sure. Possibly $285? Still waiting to get back another $225.
    Total time spent: Hours wasted.
    Total customer satisfaction: Is negative an amount?

    Absolutely ridiculous, not using them again.

    I would just like to let you know that we have been renting with Abel Rent A Car for quite some time now. We have been over to Perth and up to Brisbane and the Gold Coast on several occasions and used your services. We have always been delighted with the courteous happy staff in the Offices and the easy manner you have of processing your customers. Its been great having the shuttle bus come to collect us from out the front of the airport and take us to the Office to pick up our car. Its fantastic how quickly it is all settled and that there are no hidden extra costs.

    We would like to thank you for an excellent, reasonably priced company with thoughtful, happy customer service where we can rent well maintained vehicles for our holidays. We wish you well for the future of your company and hope that it will grow and prosper.
