The gutters on our house were at least 35 yrs old, rusty, sagging and leaking, the timber fascia was rotten in some parts and needed replacing. We wanted them removed and replaced with new guttering and fascia all round and the gutters re-aligned to drain into our two new water tanks.

I obtained 3 quotes from different companies, including a large company. I decided to go with About Home because they listened & seemed to understand our needs, even though their quote was not the cheapest.

It took a few weeks to get them to lock in a commencement date. On the first day one person worked by themselves to remove the old gutter & fascia. They were going to attempt to replace the 6 meter fascia board by themselves so I offered help. I noted that they didnt measure or mark where it was going to go and just went by eye. When the second part of the fascia adjoining it was held in place I could see that the boards were out of alignment and uneven. I suggested that they should use a spirit level to check if the boards were level!

Then they put the gutter on the rear of the house, a simple straight section to fall away to one side. Once installed I stood back and could see it was totally even! I suggested that the water might not flow well and that they should raise or lower one end to get the water falling correctly.

Later when replacing the quad dowel beading that supports the eve sheets they installed them unevenly, with gaps and with poor finishing in corners. I could have done a better job myself by simply ensuring that it was all measured and marked to be installed evenly. Ive got photos of the poor workman ship if you want to see for your self.

Their last job was to connect a Sludge Buster to our water tanks and down pipes. The end result was that the overflow pipe was glued shut!! I inspected it before they left and asked them to fix it, which they did by cutting the sludge buster and removing the glued lid! If they had read the instructions that came with the Sludge Buster this should not have happened.

They also knocked a water tap fitting off the wall while removing the gutter, but fixed it after I pointed it out to them.

The only redeeming thing about them is that they worked consistently to finish the job, arrived on time and did a half decent job of blowing the yard in an attempt to clean up.

Two days after they finished the job a neighbour dropped in and asked who did the gutters, I told them their name only so they wouldnt make the same mistake I did by trusting them to complete the job to a good standard. I'm embarrassed by the way it looks now and feel foolish for trusting them! I'm not inviting them back to fix it again because I don't trust them anymore.
