You know you've made it when you've inspired a Facebook appreciation group. 'The Adriano Zumbo Appreciation Society' group (boasting close to three hundred members) has brought people from all over the world who have at some point stepped through the doors of the world acclaimed Balmain patisserie: 'Adriano Zumbo' together on the internet to oogle over pictures and discuss Zumbo's latest creations.

The patisserie, which represented Australia as a nation in the “Coup du Monde de la Patissier” and “Chocolate Masters”, has recently opened up a chocolate cafe portion. Serving coffee, meals such as cakes and quiches as well as their acclaimed chocolates.

"I want to come back to Australia just for them!" writes one user from Spain on the Facebook wall. As for me, I'm already thinking about what bus route to take...

The macarons truly are amazing and a must have for all Sydneysiders to try (or any travellers willing to venture out to Balmain). The shop itself is small but well worth the wait as the pastries, cakes, pies and sausage rolls are all good. Saturdays are very popular so if you can go another day I would suggest it. Reasonably prices and great location.

The cakes and macarons are very, very good, no doubt about it. The queue is off putting, but just a testiment to the quality of the products being sought - my complaint is that the shop isn't designed or staffed for the obvious number of people seeking to sample what is being so thoroughly raved about. When this address was established, Zumbo had a solid following and was growing, so investing in a shop that was more than a shoebox would have not just been justified, but smart.
I do plan to return when I'm in Sydney again, but if I can order ahead or go on a day that for some reason won't be so popular, I will.

This place is great. It's both a cafe and patisserie, and sells Adrainao Zumbo's (of Masterchef fame) incredible pastries, cakes and macarons. It's surprisingly pretty affordable, despite the media attention and hype this place gets, and you can still get a coffee and a macaron for a fiver or so, which is nice. The custard sugarlips are pretty yummy, but most people come here for the famous macarons, and understandably so, as all the ones I've tried have been excellent. The salted butter caramel, pancake and maple syrup, and chocolate with pop rocks encrusted on the icing (!) are all brilliant, and I haven't worked up the guts to try them yet but I hear the wasabi and pickled ginger, bloody mary and basil and passionfruit are pretty good too.

What a joke, first they loose our order, and make my wife prove we had even ordered a cake. Then they give us the wrong cake and tell us it's up to us to exchange it (30 mins before our sons christening), when we finally get our cake it is decorated incorrectly and half the size of what we had paid for (in full two weeks in advance). I can't say a bad word about the taste of the cake to be honest, but the service leaves alot to be desired.

This place is AWESOME, his expertise within the patisserie genre of food is phenomenal, cakes stay moist longer than usual, the flavour of the cakes are incredible, pricing is very reasonable for a patisserie of this callibre, if you are cake and dessert lover, this is a place for you to try, his masterpiece is the V8 cake, 8 layers of different stages of vanilla, this cake is like heaven on earth, there is a long wait most days at this small patisserie, but it is WELL worth the wait

Located on the trendy Darling Street- this small establishment comes with a large reputation for it's desserts and cakes. Since appearing as a guest chef on the television series Masterchef- the shop has been busier than ever. You are lucky to even be able to buy a cake after midday as many are sold out prior. However, if you are lucky enough to buy a cake here- they come a cute blakc anfd pink take away box with a high lid to ensure your cakes reach home in perfect condition. I would come here again- or I would recommend any of my friends to come here- and buy me a cake... or a macoroon... anything really...

The cakes and pastries they sell here would have been preferred snacks for all in the Witches of Eastwick. Wicked wicked wicked but so colourful and inventive as well as tasty. Its a tiny shop but well worth a visit

He’s the man who has set out to ‘caramelise the nation’, and judging by the queues outside his patisserie, Adriano Zumbo is well on the way to success. Balmain has embraced his quirky creations like ‘4Times the Vitamin C’ – a blackcurrant jelly and marshmallow ball with vanilla violet mousse and pistachio feuilletine. If you can’t squeeze into this hole-in-thewall, head to Rozelle to Zumbo’s Chocolat Café (reopening mid-August).
