Adult learn-to-swim Sandgate QLD

Directions

The program provides adults with skills: • to feel safe and comfortable in the water • to enjoy the pool or the beach with family and friends • to swim for pleasure and fitness.

Sandgate Swimming Club's adult learn-to-swim program is conducted in a comfortable, non-threatening environment by an understanding and patient instructor. Students advance at their own pace to achieve their own goals.

The program is flexible enough to accommodate the individual studentâ??s abilities, goals and progress. There is no multi-week program; students pay for each 30 minute session as they go and continue at their own pace for as long as they want. Lessons can be one-to-one (preferred for the complete non-swimmer) or in small classes (no more than four) for the more competent swimmer wishing to improve their technique.

We recognise that our adult students may be afraid of the water, ashamed of their lack of swimming skills or embarrassed by their level of physical fitness or appearance. Remember that being a little tubby can be a positive attribute in the water as it adds to your ability to float! Also keep in mind that the aquatic environment is not natural for humans and that swimming is a skill which must be learnt â?? it doesnâ??t come naturally. All adults are capable of learning to swim; the challenge is in identifying and unlocking the barriers to learning.

The venue is Sandgate State Schoolâ??s heated 25 metre pool which can be accessed from Keogh Street, Sandgate, near the intersection of Lagoon Street, opposite the Sandgate RSL club.

Individual and small group instruction is available each weekday in May and June 2011 up to 3pm and after 5pm. Please book your session in advance so there is no overlap.

Costs are $25 per half-hour session for individual (one-to-one) instruction and $15 per person per half-hour session for groups of two, three of four.

The Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor is Mark Otter. Mark is an AUSTSWIM-qualified Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, an AUSTSWIM-qualified Teacher of Swimming to Adults, a Royal Lifesaving Society-qualified pool lifeguard, a bronze medallion holder and he has current first aid and CPR qualifications.

Im a fifty something female who sat on the sidelines for years watching my children at learn to swim and swim club but never learned to swim myself!

I have been taking adult learn to swim classes for 4 weeks with (a very patient) Mark and am delighted with the progress Ive made in that time. The 3 sessions a week have made the difference allowing me to not only reinforce what I was shown in the previous session but also helping me to build stamina as well. Thanks Mark! Thanks also to Sandgate Swimming Club who support the Adults Learn to Swim. Maureen
