Great decor and atmosphere, friendly service. I went for lunch after a friend recommended the schnitzel sandwich. He was right - it was very good. The wholemeal bread was fresh and soft, the unusual coleslaw blend was very tasty. I was disappointed with the coffee - it was quite bitter. I would go back again for the sandwich for sure (and hopefully the coffee will improve).
Another reason to love Summer Hill! Beautiful produce and such warm and friendly service. You always walk in to a big smile. It is very clean, you just know the kitchen is immaculate and I love the display of fresh baked loafs, cakes and biscuits still in their tins. I know their home-made, take-home dinners will always be filling and nutritious but I just can't get passed ordering their fabulous turkey sandwich.
We stopped in for sandwiches on a Saturday afternoon and were so impressed with this little local deli. Everything was clean, neat and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the turkey & cranberry sandwich on turkish bread and my boyfriend ordered the roast beef. Both were delicious...so good that we agreed to split our sandwiches so we could each have half of the other! The selection of meats and cheeses looked excellent so we'll definitely be back to pick up both sandwiches and deli meat.
Alimento is great - it has changed hands since I moved into the area and while I liked it before, the vibe and the feel of the place feels a bit more open and friendly with a revamp of the inside. The people working there (I assume they are the new owners) are extremely pleasant and friendly, and a lovely smile certainly goes a long way. They have more tables inside now which is nice and certainly the food is really tasty. They do really nice smooth coffee and the hot chocolate...well it is made from actual chocolate buds, it beats any other I have had hands down! They have a great range of tasty sandwiches, which they will make for you fresh, lovely organic bread, and a variety of specials, including fritters and salads. Aside from other delicious deli fare, it's just a very pleasant place to visit with the mix of an old school deli and cafe all in one.
This deli in Summer Hill is a lovely little place. When I first moved to Summer Hill three years ago it was run by two women who I think were sisters. It had a lovely old school feel to it with an array of cabinets and cupboards containing a range of breads, condiments, drinks, desserts and the usual selection of deli foods like olives, meats and pastas. What kept us coming back were the delicious sandwiches served on big wedges of whatever bread was fresh that day. The ham, cheese, tomato and mustard sandwich was a favourite of mine with lovely shaved ham that melted in my mouth. Since then the deli has been taken over by a man and a woman and things have been spruced up a bit. I cant help but feel that the change has been detrimental to the delis atmosphere with everything looking much more neat and tidy and some shiny new wooden tables and chairs set up inside and out so that people can sit in the deli to eat. In essence it has become more of a caf. In saying that, the people that work there are absolutely lovely. The food is still divine and they still have the great sandwiches on the menu. In fact, it is nice to be able to sit in and have a coffee! I think the main issue is just getting used to the new setup. If I didnt know the old deli I wouldnt even think twice about the atmosphere of this lovely little place. It is small, unassuming and always welcoming. I will definitely still be popping in regularly for a sandwich and a coffee. I hope they do well.
A fabulous deli with the best sandwiches around. They have great produce and even do freshly prepared, take home dinners, made on the premises that you can order in advance which is something that keeps the Summer Hill community very happy.
