This deli in Summer Hill is a lovely little place. When I first moved to Summer Hill three years ago it was run by two women who I think were sisters. It had a lovely old school feel to it with an array of cabinets and cupboards containing a range of breads, condiments, drinks, desserts and the usual selection of deli foods like olives, meats and pastas. What kept us coming back were the delicious sandwiches served on big wedges of whatever bread was fresh that day. The ham, cheese, tomato and mustard sandwich was a favourite of mine with lovely shaved ham that melted in my mouth. Since then the deli has been taken over by a man and a woman and things have been spruced up a bit. I cant help but feel that the change has been detrimental to the delis atmosphere with everything looking much more neat and tidy and some shiny new wooden tables and chairs set up inside and out so that people can sit in the deli to eat. In essence it has become more of a caf. In saying that, the people that work there are absolutely lovely. The food is still divine and they still have the great sandwiches on the menu. In fact, it is nice to be able to sit in and have a coffee! I think the main issue is just getting used to the new setup. If I didnt know the old deli I wouldnt even think twice about the atmosphere of this lovely little place. It is small, unassuming and always welcoming. I will definitely still be popping in regularly for a sandwich and a coffee. I hope they do well.
