I recently hired a car from Alpha (8 pm 21 Jan - 12.00 pm 1 Feb 2012) I was given 1 day free hire so happy with that, and was charged for the partial day instead of a full day. I had booked a Nissan Tiida but got a Micra, which is fine it's what I wanted in the first place, my daily rate was reduced so really happy with that. The car was in good condition, it got me everywhere I needed to go. I had originally booked elsewhere and one of the Alpha girls told me that other car companies will hold $3,300 against your credit card if you do not take out the top insurance. I checked that out and she was right, so I cancelled the other rental and went with Alpha. OK it's not right there at the airport but for the less than 10 minutes drive I would prefer to make the tremendous saving I did. My total bill was $284.55, try getting that with Budget or Avis.

I had an unpleasant experience with Alpha. We booked a Hyundai i30 but when we arrived they only had a Nissan Micra to offer us. We had booked a baby capsule too, but the staff didn't have much of an idea about installing it. We are from Brisbane and we were told by Alpha that our GoVia tag would work for Melbourne tolls and we wouldn't need to do anything about the toll payments. Months later I noticed on our credit card bill that we had been charged $110 by Alpha. I called them and was informed that they charge you $55 if you fail to pay a toll. So, we were charged $110 by Alpha for two tolls which did come to us in the mail and were paid. I found one, toll $1.90, admin fee $11.24 (!). But that fee is not nearly as exorbitant as Alpha's admin charges! Another negative is that Alpha was in an inconvenient location near Tullamarine. I will definitely NOT be using Alpha Car Hire again.

  I'd like to say that after contacting Alpha, they have agreed to refund my $110 admin fees. Ivana from Sales and Marketing gave me a detailed and informative response about car hire and tolls. Her reply and action was swift and not just a standard form letter. This has occurred after I contacted them over a year after my experience. She said it is definitely not their policy to charge a customer two admin fees (one per toll). So, great work Alpha. You have turned my frown upside down and I will definitely consider using Alpha again. They did have the best prices from memory.

Alpha have proven themselves to be a market force and are by far the lowest rate @ not much more than $55 a day for 4 days hire with tires & windshield covered and excess removed to $550.00, I would prefer $0 personally, hence the half star to 4 1/2.. but the whole experience was faultless, well explained and great service..they save you money by not paying excessive rental fees for their office @ the Airport and as a consequence its a short 7min shuttle to the Alpha Hire Office..

Easy!

Onward and Upwards guys, keep the prices and the formula.

Saved me $60 on a 4 day hire compared to the 'big companies' at the airport. Pickup from the airport was within 10 minutes of me calling them - they're just down the road. Staff friendly & helpful, car was fine though I took 1/2 star off as it could have been in better nick mechanically & body wise despite being only 8,000km old. Would certainly use them again.

The car was in excellent condition and ran like a dream. The price was very competitive and the service was great. All round it was a good experience from go to woe. I would recommend hire from Alpha Car Hire to anyone.
