I believe style and design is important in a cafe, but what is more important is service and value for money. I've tried this cafe and found the price of a meal and coffee to be expensive. On top of that I don't excect to cop attitude from snobby staff. I believe that the customer should always be treated with upmost respect no matter how bad a day the staff are having. Bussiness is not expected it's earned. I will not be returning to "The Armchair Collective" again. Wander down 20 steps or so and you will find one of the locals secret little gems.....shhh
The Armchair Colleen give is located right near the beach which is a WIN- especially if you are not from the northern beaches, as you can make a day of it! A bucket of bright pink peonies in a rustic bucket greeted me as I sat at my seat- WIN! Looking around it looks like you are eating in a super sleek interior design store. There are rows of arm chairs on a table with bold patterns and a myriad of colours. There are interior design books scattered on tables, teapots with ornamental prints and pretty much everything you need to add fun personalisations to your home. The prices of the items are a little pricey however- around $100 for a cushion, but you find yourself being able to justify it....
The food is tasty, I had a warm lamb salad- which was a grilled lamb backstrap, cooked to medium rare goodness, and delicately stacked on mixed greens. The drinks come in cute 'old style' milk glasses and are served on a wooden board. The fries seem to be a popular menu item, but don't order a side of fries WITH you burger that also comes with fries... Too.... Many....fries...
The staff were friendly but the place sure gets busy- so bear that in mind when you get here. It is ideal for a long lazy brekkie- so what's the rush anyway! If you have been to Fratelli fresh- it's kinda like that but with no home wares rather than italian food items
Talk about "getting it right!!" Interior design services matched with a homewares store and topped with the cutest kitchen serving up some fun dishes. This is where I'd like to spend most of my days.
We wanted to get out of our bubble and were told about this place through friends. I'm such a 'googler' and love my research prior to checking out a new place but couldn't quite figure out what this place had to offer, other than super cute furniture.
Well, in addition to the awesome armchairs, huge variety of exquisite tea cups and saucers, AND the fresh flowers - we sat down to quite a fabulous afternoon. They serve lunch until 3pm, and we got there around 2pm. There was no rushing at all, everyone is on 'beach time'. The menu ranged from burgers, whale ale fish and chips, antipasto platters, ocean trout salads, frittatas, lamb back strap...the list goes on. All very reasonably priced, $15 - $25 ish.
And that's just the savoury. For sweettooths, this will be your sort of heaven. Homemade banana and honey thickshakes served in old school milk bottles and the homemade brownies and caramel slices being the highlights. Then there were the kids on the table next to us were downing GREEN SPIDERS! It's been years since I've seen anyone drink one of those, let alone serve them.
You order up at the counter, grab your number and find a seat. It's much more glamorous than it sounds.
We thought it'd be rude not to order a bottle of champas, again no huge mark up and served in a cute bridgewater mill clear cooler. All amongst amazing furniture, that isn't yours...but could be.
One of the most colourfully classy cafes with very honest hospitality.
