Despite Arrivederci's billing as a seafood restaurant, the main menu seafood consisted of one pasta and some entrees. For our seafood mains, we ordered expensive blackboard specials (fish and prawns, each $40, and a half-lobster at market price). Four rubbery, unfresh, suspiciously reheated tasting prawns were served with a tiny dollop of mashed potato and veggies. After de-heading and de-tailing the prawns, half of the already meager meal was on the scrap plate. The fried fish was just ordinary and rather small, with only salty chips as a side for $40. The lobster was stale, tough, and tasteless except for a lathering of repugnant horseradish like sauce, and another side of chips.
The wait staff were initially well mannered, although unhelpful over questions about the food. After payment of the bill, we mildly expressed our displeasure with the food, and were ignored and dismissed, and considered poor patrons for not tipping. To our horror, after leaving the venue, the $230 receipt revealed the half-lobster was $85 alone, suggesting why the blackboards price was missing, or why the staff did not inform us of this beforehand. All we were served here was microwave tasting, stale, poorly prepared seafood at exorbitant prices. Even a polite phone call the next day to inquire about the half lobsters cost lead only to mockery and obnoxiousness from the answering staff member.
I have never written a restaurant review before, however we were so angry, upset, and disgusted by this business that we felt compelled too submit this. If you must attend, stick to something that does not require freshness or the expected quality of $40-$85 dishes, such as the pasta.
we have frequented Arrivederci for the past 11 years week in week out, the operators of this FINE establishment have FRESH SEAFOOD available 3 x per week, as i would know as i have seen Angelo & Tony at Pyrmont Fish Markets buying their required produce. I am a Member of The Manly Golf Club and have always sent members to this Restaurant, and they have always returned Complementing Arrivederci. Now in our late Sixties, of British Descent and well travelled, have found that this is the most Amazing Italian & Seafood Restaurant in Sydney. This restaurant may not have a view of the Ocean, BUT their food has flavour, texture and aroma, that would make anyone hungry, and make everyone have a lovely time. However if you experiences a bad time, not a meal, you are just looking for an excuse for a free ride. Not in this Restaurant! RIP...............
