The dining room is all very understated in its interior design concepts with little artwork cluttering the walls, a small semi-private section behind a simple waterfall feature wall, a semi-open kitchen and a private dining room in one corner of the premises. It does feel, however, a bit like a totally controlled four-star hotel dining room, with muted tones, pleasant, traditional lighting and soft, dark-covered cushioned seating. The menu then announces "superior" curries, a chapter of "authentic all-time favourites", as well as separate vegetarian and seafood choices. Butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, rogan josh lamb and all the usual characters from northern and southern traditions, Madras and Chettinad included, are there. Four rice and 11 bread options add to the mixing and matching game you can play here.

Refused to honor the Entertainment Gold Card. We were refused the Entertainment Gold Card on Easter Monday (we booked Monday knowing that it was not valid on Easter Sunday). When I made a formal complaint to the Entertainment Book people, they asked for the receipt. When I got the receipt out I noticed it had been BACK DATED to the Easter Sunday. In shock at such behaviour I checked my credit card transaction history where the bank demonstrates that I indeed was there on the Monday. Shame on these restaurateurs as it reduces our trust in the Entertainment Book. Fortunately there are plenty of other wonderful places to eat good Indian food in Adelaide.

worst service experience went for dinner with my family.my last experience in food quality was worst as well but my daughter like their TANDOORI Mushroom. So we thought may be food is improved as well. we reached their at 9.00 PM and ordered our entree and mains and specially mentioned to the staff that bring entree and mains together. we got the entree in next 10 minutes but after that we waited 55 minutes for mains food. When we called one staff to enquire about the food, staff said manager will come to you. After 10 minutes the manager came and said "have patience food will take some time". I said that i am not happy with your service then we were asked " So do you want to leave" rather than aplogising for bad customer service. In the mean time food arrived and we started eating.Food was as it bad as it was before. After finishing food i went to the counter to pay and i thought i should complain to the management of the restaurant . When they came on counter i realised that she is the same person came to out table and said "do you want to leave".When i tried to explain our situation to them, i was told "My staff is good and trained and my food is good as well, my staff has already told me that you keep complaining every time" I was stunned with such a rude behaviour of the management. Their food and service was good six months ago but now both their service and food is worst. They should learn how to treat customers.

Love love love love LOVE this place!! As an interstater I often find Adelaide lacking, but this is the BEST Indian in Australia. BETTER than the food I've eaten in INDIA! Amazing service (they remember my name and my favourite dish), excellent well priced wine list, the prices are exceptional (have paid more than double in alleged "fine dining" places where the curry is average), can no longer eat any other place's curry because it pales in comparison!!!

Food is fantastic. Not your average Indian food. Creative with originality. Service very good. Ask them to feed you, if you have the nerve. We went there with 8 people and asked them to feed us whatever they thought was good. Excellent meal and gave us exactly the right amount! So worth a go.

Arya at North Adelaide may be newish, but the family pedigree is impressive and the venue a welcome addition for Indian-food buffs.

Heat is a precious commodity in the midst of winter. Warming food in many guises does the trick to survive the cold - big roasts, hearty soups, gutsy braises - and one of the most exciting ways these can be consumed is with all the colour and drama of the spices of India.

We've noted before that Adelaide is well regarded in Indian cuisine's diaspora, with a huge number of restaurants from the market food court to the linen and uniformed-staff high end. We regularly win national restaurant industry awards for best Indian restaurant in Australia - Jasmin being the star. Others at the top end, such as Unley Rd's Tandoori Oven, The Village in Gouger St and British India in Morphett St, all add to the prestige of this style of dining.

Arya, in the newish North Adelaide Village development, has a back story that speaks from both ends of the spectrum.

Its owners, Vijay and Padma Rawat, used to run the busy Chapati House outlets at Black Forest and on Greenhill Rd, w...
