The Fitzroy situated 'Atomica Cafe' takes coffee extremely seriously. Head barista Vernon Tava goes to the trouble of roasting and blending his own selection of beans and even has his own sort of coffee creed. This borderline obsessive compulsive type behaviour pays off when you sip on one of his creations. The coffee alone is sure to have you coming back.

The cafe also serves a wonderful range of pastries to compliment their drinks and a few sandwiches for lunch. There is a sidewalk dining area, perfect for sunny days, but the cosy and beautifully decorated interior will work wonders for the other 364 days on the Victorian calender.

I have been to alot of cafes around Melbourne but this one rates as a true favourite. The menu has many unique items that are really tempting. The coffee is great, the atmosphere is fun, social and relaxed, but overall it's the menu that makes this place so good for me -inexpensive, tasty, fresh and filling!

Atomica represents all that is great and distinctive about Fitzroy. The service and the fit out is relaxed, unpretentious and interesting. The cafe's crowd is diverse and creative. As for the key currency - the coffee - both as served and as is available to purchase in bean form or ground, it is strong without being overpowering, nutty not bitter, rich and delicious. I have a one cup a day coffee rule but I frequently have to break it for a second cup at Atomica because the coffee is just so good.
