Australian Council Of Royal Flying Doctor Service

Directions
The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia is a not-for-profit charitable Service providing aeromedical emergency and primary health care services together with communication and education assistance to people who live, work and travel in regional and remote Australia.

The services provided by the RFDS are as follows:
-	24 hours Emergency Service:
-	Primary Healthcare Clinics at Remote Sites:
Regular clinics at isolated sites conducted by RFDS doctors, flight nurses and other specialised health professionals and in some cases State health practitioners. Services include but are not limited to routine health checks and advice, immunization, child health care, dental, eye and ear clinics.
-	Telehealth (Radio, Telephone consultations):
Consultation by doctors using the radio, telephone with people at remote locations.
-	Communication:
The provision of radio communication through certain RFDS bases. With the advent of the telephone to the outback this role is declining.

-	Medical Chests:
Approximately 3000 RFDS medical chests containing an extensive range of numbered drugs and medical supplies are located at remote locations across Australia, such as isolated pastoral properties, Indigenous communities, out-stations, remote mining sites and lighthouses.
-	Inter Hospital Transfers:
Patients are transferred between small rural and remote area hospitals and larger metropolitan hospitals.
-	Female GP Clinics:
A government funded program, with the RFDS as the facilitating body that coordinates the delivery of female general practitioners to identified rural and remote locations.
-	Indigenous Health:
It has long been recognised that the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is of a standard considerably lower than that of non-indigenous Australians. The RFDS has an important role to play in addressing the poor health status of Indigenous Australians.
-	Health Promotion

My wife was caught way out west one year many miles from any help let alone emergency help.

Thankfully the flying doctors flew out and rescued her in the middle of the night. Her appendix had burst and if they hadn't arrived when they did my wife would have lost her life that night.

As far as I am concerned I owe them my life because my wife is my life.

    Thank you Royal Australian Doctors!

I was flown from Adelaide to Naracoorte (country town 350km south east of Adelaide) after having major surgery. The people were lovely, talking me through any nervous moments & even let the pilot take photos with me & my Dr :)

Doesnt this charity deserve all our support? The tireless work of the doctors, nurses and pilots who reach our most remote parts. It makes me feel good to know that there is so much good occurring in this great nation of ours. Get behind the Flying Doctors!!

As I was involved in a serious car accident back on the 18th of December 2005, driving from Derby, WA to Sth Hedland, WA for Chrsitmas. If it hadn't been for these lovely dedicated people helping mr from Port Hedland to Royal Perth Hospital, I don't think I would be here today.... Just an absolutely brillaint service for us country/bush people who really need these guys to keep going.

This service is known very little by City people, but for for country people that travel 200klm to do their shopping in the out back, this service is their only connection between living and Dying. At some time most City people go on holiday all over Oz, you will never know when you might need this service.

RDFS is one of the most inportant charities in this vast land of ours. Without them all the people in outback Australia the many stockworkers jillaroos jackaroos all the families of them wouldn't have such quick access to medical emergencies. They really do the hard yards with all the travelling and getting medical attention to the Aussies that keep Australia going
