Baba's a fun, frisky eating barn, with clever and approachable food at pretty good prices.
Many restaurants insist you dance to their tune. "We'll need you out by eight o'clock, if you don't mind." "The degustation is compulsory on Saturday nights." "No, you can't swap salami for pastrami on the pizza." Sometimes it feels like the only thing you can do right is pay up and scarper. Baba is another breed: flexible, accommodating, easy, more-or-less Turkish. Got the children and the in-laws for an early dinner? Come on in: kids' pizzas are half price. Found a latecomer who wants chicken claypot while you're drooling over dessert? Sure, how about some tabbouleh too? Rushing to get to a gig but need some ballast for beer? Pop in for a 30-minute chow. You'll probably be impressed enough to schedule an all-evening session that starts with dips and beer, kicks on with goat tagine and grenache, continues with rosewater panna cotta and mint tea, and concludes in the street-side lounge.
