WHEN worlds collide, the tastes of two continents prove an interesting and pleasing combination, writes Jane Scott.
There's no shortage of gourmet burger joints in Brisbane (or non-gourmet burger joints, for that matter). But I'm prepared to go out on a limb and say there's no other burger joint in town like Babu, because here, burgers are just part of the story.
The other half is focused on Middle Eastern cuisine, and an interesting, slightly exotic vibe is the result.
In Babu, owner Eyal Levy - who also does the cooking - has created an eatery that reflects his personal story. The burgers relate to time spent in the US, while the Moroccan, Tunisian and Lebanese dishes stem from years in hospitality in the Middle East.
And the photos on the walls were taken by Eyal in the northern Indian village where he met Celeste, the Brisbane woman who accounts for his presence here.
The result could be a mishmash but it's not. It's an interesting and well-priced place that's well suited to a quick bite or a casual get-together.
