The H in Bar H stands for Hamish, who spent nine years under the guidance of Kylie Kwong before branching out with this Surry Hills eatery. With his partner Rebecca, the pair have created a European style bar where coffee, wine and modern Australian cuisine is on offer. Great little wine bar/ restaurant in Surry Hills. The menu has a great selection of modern Chinese/Asian dishes which are sublime. The food looks and tastes a little like Bill Kwong. They also do a good happy hour between 6-7pm where the cocktails are $10. They had a really great pomegranate cocktail. The only downside about this place is the table we were sitting at was a little wonky and made me paranoid I was going to spill something all night. Service is friendly and attentive. -

We managed to try this place last weekend and we were completely astounded not just by their simple-yet-captivating food offerings but also their open contemporary atmosphere and their extremely attentive and friendly service. We had a 7-course degustation menu and I am impressed with the use of common ingredients (such as fennel) to make it a unified eating experience. Its caramelised beef as well as calamari salad are the two I loved the most and are worth coming back for.
Just be aware that there is only 1 bathroom to share, so time yourself accordingly if you need to use it :) -
Funky little restaurant / wine bar. The staff are on the ball, keeping an eye on your glass and making sure it's always full.... Even if it's just water. We had their lunch time sandwiches. $12 - $17 for Sonoma thick cut bread. Great atmosphere, could also be classified as almost fine-dining lunch.
