Walking into a nearly deserted bar isn't always a bad thing.

Think of your favourite hidden cocktail lounge, or of long conversations with a friendly bar attendant over just-invented mixed drinks on a "school night". Then there are the times when you feel more like a character in Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, living out your bitterly forlorn bar-hopping with a handful of similarly solo-flying loners, looking for the answer to your existential crises at the bottom of your Long Island iced tea. But then there are the "quiet night" moments that fall somewhere between those two extremes, and are - in their very deadening mundanity - somehow worse. Such was the quietly thudding sense of "muh" that underpinned an evening at Bar Nothing Noir Lounge.
