Great gastro pub in Hawthorn. The front bar has a good atmoshphere, with a few comfy Churchill couches around around low tables in the midle, and some higher tables with bar stools around the perimeter. A couple of TVs are usually playing some sport. There is a good range of beers on tap. The licensed restaurant has a bistro feel to it, but the food is top notch. It can get quite loud on busy nights. Solid wine list. Sometimes it can be nice to eat the food in the front bar for a different atmosphere.
This modern Australian wine bar & bistro located in Hawthorn is sure to impress. With a varied menu including gourmet pizzas, pastas, steaks and salads, it's easy to forget that the establishment used to be known as the 'beehive', a rather grungy looking pub. The food is extremely tasty and the servings ample. I had the braised beef gnocchi and was blown away by how tasty the meat was - melt in your mouth type stuff. The table service is impeccable: napkins folded on your lap, water topped up consistently throughout the evening. We were there for a birthday and someone brought cupcakes. Word of warning: be sure to call ahead if you plan to bring cupcakes or you will be charged 'cupcakeage' at $3.50 pp. Prices are reasonable to expensive with the average steak priced at $35. Pastas around $22 - $26 and Pizzas, a reasonable $18. Definitely worth checking out.
