If I lived closer to the East, I'd be here a couple of times a week I think. Not for the upmarket food (which is just above average - try the sharing plates) but for the free, live gigs upstairs. I was really surprised how small a turn out there was when we went to see a local reggae troupe. The only thing that turned me off were the unwelcome stares from Aryan locals - apparently cultured visitors are only allowed to be tourists in this part of Sydney..?

They have a cheap deal on Thursday nights here. You get a pizza and a peroni for about $15 or something. The pizza is awful. Dreadfully awful. It had chunks of canned meat on. Terrible food. I've heard it was bad - but tinned meat on pizza should be not allowed.

I went here for a drink last Sunday night, as my friends and I were looking for a spot to have a quiet one after dinner. It was still pretty packed when we got there at 9.30 on Sunday night, which is a testament to how good this place is on weekends. I've never been on a Wednesday night, but apparently that's its other big night for backpackers and locals looking for a mid-week night on the town. I've also been to see live music here, which they often have on upstairs, and it's a great venue for that. The upstairs part is similar to downstairs in that there's one big bar in the middle of the room, making for easy access wherever you're standing in the pub. They tend to close off upstairs about an hour before they close the pub (at least that's what happened when I was there). The place can get really packed and noisy on a Sunday, which makes for some difficulty actually trying to talk to people, but it certainly creates a good atmosphere.

The Beach Road is Bondi's most famous pub and easily its best, with good food, a great beer garden, excellent regular live music and an unpretentious pub vibe. It's a massive space, and each separate part of it has its own atmosphere and crowd - at the front is a pretty eclectic crowd of backpackers, pool players and bar flies, while the beer garden and back area is for young, hip and beautiful Bondi residents only. The front bar hosts live music, and on Wednesday nights especially, you can stumble across some great gigs - and they're always free. The food is well priced, upmarket pub grub, and there are heaps of specials that change regularly. The service can be a bit hit and miss, especially on busy nights, but all in all you can forgive it that as this is just a simple, no-fuss, beachy pub.

Popular bar full of backpackers and Bondi locals. Good for drinking beer and watching sports after a day at the beach.

This place reminds me of the bar in Stars Wars. Very random people from all walks of life.

Awesome pub. Everything you could want in a pub: TAB and casual, relaxed atmosphere downstairs; dining and small beer garden; dance floor and groovy setting upstairs. Plenty of eye candy for both the guys and girls. Besides the traditional 'partying nights' of the week, this pub draws a huge crowd on Wednesday and Sunday nights too.
