    Reputable, honest and a local business worth supporting? You decide.

    Beds for backs at northland homemakers centre refuse to refund our deposit of $500.00.

    We went into their store just after Christmas 2008, 27th of December and agreed in the light of some persuasive sales talk to leave a deposit of $500.00 on a $2500 bed. We ordered a standard bed nothing custom made. We went away and over the next week and checked out their claims in relation to their beds on their website (www.beds4backs.com.au.) These claims did not seem credible. Our further investigation sowed them to be exaggerated and not at all credible. We decided the product was unfit for our purposes. Given it was early new year and holiday time we rang within 8 or so days to cancel our order. We had been advised that delivery time may take up to four weeks especially since it was Holiday time and the factory closed for a period. Bed for Backs response was to refuse to refund our deposit. Since then we have made written requests for the return of our money, we lodged a case with consumer affairs and have attended a hearing at Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in an effort to retrieve our money. It has been nine months and they have not availed themselves of the opportunity to do the right thing. They did not attend the VCAT hearing, it was awarded in our favour and now they claim they did not receive notification of a hearing. We are now faced with losing another half days pay while the review panel of VCAT decides whether or not it will even rehear the case. If VCAT rehears the case we face another round at the tribunal or a hearing at the Supreme court, either way more loss in earnings. Is it worth it? These people believe they have a right to treat their customers with contempt. We didn't purchase the bed outright. The written conditions on the Tax invoice state "the goods purchased...CANNOT be returned once used." Our goods were never delivered and were a standard factory product. Conclusion Beds for Backs are unreasonable to say the least, are trying to rip us off and hope we will go away. Is this the sort of local business you want to support?
