Now that I've been here twice for the food, I feel that I can give a proper review :) The first time I went was for lunch, where I had the seafood & tomato pasta (I forget the name of the dish), and thought it was a little bland. It would have been nice with some additional warmth, such as some chilli.
But I went yesterday evening for dinner with some girlfriends, and I have to say that this is definitely going to become a regular haunt for us! Service was attentive and knowledgeable. I had no problems in getting a booking earlier in the day.
Main course I had the entree size spinach & ricotta cannelloni - a cheese lovers delight! Nothing to complain about here. I had been eyeing up the special eye fillet with polenta, proscuitto, mixed mushrooms and beans, however was eagerly anticipating dessert and so didn't want to have too large a main. The cannelloni arrived in a little casserole dish, piping hot and smothered in cheese. For someone who's less fond of cheese, you might find it a bit much. Spag bol was 'average', proclaimed my Italian friend. Lamb curry was deemed wonderful. The lamb curry is also gluten-free, although without the pappadums. My GF friend was pleasantly surprised to see the large number of gluten free options on the menu.
Onto dessert! I'm glad I saved room for it. One criticism is that it did take a while for the desserts to come out, although it allowed us time for a reprieve.
I was originally contemplating the lemon meringue pie until I noticed the chocolate & Baileys creme brulee on the specials board. How could lemon meringue pie live up to that?? I had to try it, and I was not disappointed. Creamy, dreamy, and everything I could have asked for. Chocolate bliss in a ramekin. My Italian friend was in raptures over the sticky date pudding, a generous slab of it sitting in am expansive pool of caramel sauce with a little island of ice cream, while my GF friend was happily devouring her colourful fruit meringue.
For me, the entree sized cannelloni and my creme brulee came to just under $28. Very happy with the friendly service and the food. Will definitely be back again!
A north shore cafe establishment. These guys have been here for ever and always have maintained a strong following. I do think though that it has not adapted with the times and seems to be loosing it's flair. I do not know if it is a new owner or something. I recently went here for lunch and the food was ok, medium size servings - though my friend had some great looking nachos.
