This vet's is excellent for the vet section but terrible if you want to take your dog for grooming. Every time we have taken our Wire-Haired Fox Terrier there to get a wash they have taken the liberty of clippering different parts of his hair off without consulting us. (And with specific instructions on the card of what to do for him). The most recent time when we booked him in for a wash, blow dry and brush and they clippered all of his beautiful head hair off because they said they found some matting. It was very upsetting to both me and my husband. They said because he is such a handful they didn't think we would want to pay $60 to get him sedated and have the knots brushed out so they just groomed it because 'most people want that'. If they had bothered to look at our file instead of just doing what they thought was right they would have seen that last time we brought him in we had had to get him sedated to trim the hair around his eyes. I don't believe that he would have had very bad matting on his head since we had just taken him there a few weeks ago and my husband had also just brushed his head a few days before we took him in. They also shaved all the hair off around his bum which we didn't want either and looks terrible. He actually looks ridiculous at the moment because he has a huge fluffy body and very small shaved head. It is very upsetting. Especially to think of all his beautiful head hair just shaved off which gave him all his character.
I had to laugh when i read this "review". As a professional groomer with over 10 years experience in the field with extensive experience with terrier style coats as well as aggressive dogs (and yes a dog that HAS to be sedated to have the fur around its eyes cut is termed as Aggressive) i have to say that this is a very biased comment from someone who obviously has no grooming experience what so ever.
With dogs who are in cline to BITE to an extent that they need sedation, no groomer would firstly put the dog thru anything that is going to set them off unless they truly believe it is in the best interest of the dog- NOT the owners!!! matts are painful for a dog, and wether the owner deemed it appropriate or not i would have clipped the dogs head as well.. its cruel not to. It's HAIR for god sake it will grow back and if you put in the effort required to keep it from matting in the first place then the groomer wouldn't have been put in the position where they had to make that call.
and secondly... i know the groomers who work at this clinic and i know that they treat the dogs and client with the utmost care and respect. The amount of times i have had client bringing their dogs in and asking for "a little bit off" only for us to find that the dog is matted to the skin is countless.. groomers are not miracle workers, we do not have magic wands that can turn a matted dog into a masterpiece. at the end of the day we have a duty of care to ensure that any dog brought to us is firstly comfortable not only with the whole grooming experience but also with the end result.. and if the dog is MATTED and brushing tight matts out is painful then we are not going to inflict that onto the dogs.. some owners need to wake up and take responsibility for their short comings with AT HOME GROOMING instead of blaming the groomer when they are left no other option but the clip the dog.
