    A mouthwatering menu awaits those in the know.

    Petersham in the pouring rain sounds like the name of a '60s song, but it's real life. Under grey skies unloading long-awaited buckets of water, I'm searching the suburb for Big Brekky, the meal and the corner cafe of that name. The place isn't hard to find but the blinds are drawn. Only the blackboard sign on the footpath suggests it might be open. Walk in and, boy, is it open. The room is lively and packed. Everyone looks scrubbed and cheerful as if they've just returned from a brisk morning walk and gathered in the farmhouse. This is a country kitchen with style, though. Faint scratch marks suggest the darkly varnished tables are lovingly pre-loved. They are crammed into the space with apple-green plastic folding chairs, the same colour tone as the front door. I have to breathe in as I slide into my seat. The happy green harmonises with the elegant burgundy trim around the large, deep-set windows that are screened by silvery thin venetians.
