What a fine breakfast menu it is here in this fearsomely sleek little box of a room with its timber floor.
Greediness has its own intellectual rewards as I discovered over a three-course breakfast the other day. (Is there any other kind I hear the trenchermen and hobbits among you cry?) The conumdrum was this. At breakfast what should come first? The savoury or the sweet? Now at dinner or lunch it's traditional to end the meal with dessert but at the start of the day do the rules change? Should I have my Birdman granola with berry fool before the braised beans on toast? Or the other way round? And where to place the toast? Should I spread it with raspberry jam or vegemite? Or both, as is my want if the toast's a little burnt. Not questions that arise if you start the day with a bowl of apple slices and a 10-kilometre run. But then that's probably because I would have passed out after 400 metres.
