THE enclave at the Woolloongabba end of Logan Road continues to bloom as a restaurant strip. The latest addition is Bistrot Bistro and I have a hunch its going to fit right in.

Of all of the restaurants in the area, it makes the most of the beautiful old building it inhabits. The space has been left very open, making full use of its two-street frontage and an imposing feature wall of the old bricks. It’s lit by a series of gorgeous pendant lamps and decorated simply and classically. It’s eerily reminiscent of a Parisian bistro. The food and drink don’t quite follow the lead of the building and decor, reaching further afield for inspiration and looking decidedly contemporary, albeit (in terms of the food) classically inspired. If you dislike asking about weird and wonderful ingredient names, you’ll be a little annoyed. There’s panko, nduja, scamorza and soubise, plus lesser evils such as remoulade, veloute and nori, all of which make for interesting reading and (at times) exciting food, but without a glossary they can make a menu a less useful piece of paper. • Mixed signals at Bistrot Bistro

THIS bistro sounds French and looks French, but soon drops the accent in favour of Australian fare.

I LOVE seeing new dining precincts emerge and thrive, especially when they are filled with high quality outlets that also offer a diverse range of dining styles and price points. Enter Woolloongabba, the newly revamped offshoot of Logan Rd, complete with centre parking and formerly the place to go only if you were antique-hunting. Now you go if you're hungry and a recent new addition to the street has added a French flavour into the mix. Or at least that's what I thought judging from the name Bistrot Bistro, positioned right next door to 1889 Enoteca, neighbour to Pearl and across the road from Crosstown Eating House.
