Blue Diamond draws on Manhattan style, offering sophistication with fifteenth floor views of Melbourne. It is essentially a membership club, however non-members are welcome on quiet nights. Live cabaret and jazz is frequently offered, along with an impressive drinks list and bar snacks to share. It is a good place to impress a date.

Do we really need an exclusive club in which to seek refuge? Well . . . yes.
THE concept of exclusivity is one that would have most Melburnians bristling. "What, members only? What a wank!" they'd say, as they trundle off to Y&J's for a pint. Melbourne's egalitarianism is one of its greatest virtues and, given that our town also lacks celebutante undercurrents, do we really need an exclusive club in which to seek refuge? Much of Blue Diamond's ability to bestow glamour comes from a location that bundles suave street-level doormen, a 15-storey lift ride, cocktails served by uniformed staff, live music and a glittering, undeniably spectacular backdrop of city lights. Such a setting can't help but add a sliver of Clooney-esque veneer to all but the most unreconstructed bogan (who probably wouldn't pass the dress code anyway). Of course, being a bar with Henry Maas (Black Cat, Night Cat) attached means that there is a good dollop of re...
