I have an interest in metal sculpture and was interested in the BOC Smootharc 130 inverter welder for home use. Being a woman as well as having no welding experience, it was initally very intimidating to even venture down this path let alone walk into a store and start talking with the sales staff about welding. However, the staff at this store have been excellent and very supportive, I was given an hour long demonstration by ?Brook (forgive me if i've got your spelling/name wrong ) on how to use the machine, safety issues, rods to be used etc. It was purely an introduction to welding and I was taught safely and just as important respectfully. I had enquired with another large welding company in wingfield prior to BOC about whether they would be able to demonstrate a similar machine to me so I could familiarise myself with safely setting it up to which I was told over the phone that they didnt do that and you 'cant expect to learn welding in 20 minutes'. Well of course I knew this, but I wanted to make sure that I set the machine up safely, but they said that they just sell them down there, so I ended returning to BOC and am so glad I did. A big thank you to everyone who took the time out of their day to show me and allow me for the first time ever to do some welding. I definitely will be supporting your company in the future and encourage any other women who may be fearful of breaking into this field to have a talk with the staff from here.
