Like the other two reviews of this gym, I too had nothing but a bad experience. The minimum six month contract is actually minimum 7 months when it comes to finalising the contract. Management asked me why I was leaving and I explained that what I was advised I had signed up to was different in the fine print. Then talked over the top of me and wasn't interested in what I had to say. They have no concept of customer service. There are plenty of other gyms in the area. Steer clear of this one!!!

I was a member of this gym in Eastwood starting last year. Same as Gym Junky, I was offered a free week trial, have also been given free sign-up and admin fees. The catch was they did not give me any time to think about the signing up since they only give it on the day the person has entered the gym. So that same day, although later in the arvo, I joined the gym as it was the closest from my new apartment.

When I was about to use their treadmill that arvo, I was told that I could only start using the machines after I've had the first free session with their personal trainer and that they won't be coming that week. So I was told I could only join the classes for that trial week! I thought the trial was a bit useless, but I just let it go.

I only joined the gym for 6 months since I was not sure if I were to stay in Eastwood after 6 months. They allowed me to join for only those 6 months but they would have to charge me a bit higher. I agreed for the few dollar difference. I enquired if I needed to do something after the 6 month contract to confirm that I won't be a member after December, I was told that I didn't have to do anything since the CONTRACT SAYS 6 MONTHS MEMBERSHIP. But I'd have to inform them if I'd like to continue my membership after the contract membership expires.

So after December, I stopped coming into the gym and then my Mum realised a few months after that I was still being debited on my credit card. I recently called them regarding this and she told me that I had to drop by the gym and speak with them to sign some papers to officially cancel my membership but since I'm back in my country, I was told to write them a letter with my signature that I wanted to cancel my membership even after the contract has ended for months now! No scanned letter and email, no fax, but a post mail!!

Better travel a distance and join a gym that cares more about your health than go nearby your place.

I was shopping in Eastwood and decided to check out Shapes. I was met by a lovely employee who did a great job letting me know about the special. Its $40 a fortnight a $150 sign up fee and a $38 admin fee. I mentioned the free week offer on the web. She said i could have the $150 removed or have the free week offer. I said I would like to see how the Gym fits me first.

I was told to come back with the free pass printed out. Well I went in today and was greeted by senior staff member. They appeared to make up some rules on the fly and said the pass was valid from the first day I came into the gym even though I never worked out and since I had been a member 12 yrs ago I was not really eligible for a it. The only reason I went in was because I was a member a long time ago. I asked them to keep their free pass there are plenty of Gyms in the area and I was not willing to join a gym.

Just an FYI if you decide to check out Shapes. It has the bare minimum of equipment and is located in a small location where parking is a problem as well.
