I wish I were born here. I wish I lived here. I am going to get married here. I'm going to die in this place. Then, I want to be buried in here or have my ashes scattered through the vents so I can touch every book ever. Then, when I go to heaven, it will just be this place but with unlimited books.
Great bookstore with a great selection of Japanese stationery, however the prices are what kills me. They are seriously expensive on all stock and you can find items much cheaper online for both the books and the stationery.
Kinokuniya is located in the The Galleries Victoria, and is a genuinely comfortable, down to earth, yet classic and well stocked book store. In the city, it definitely rates as one of my favourites. There is a manga section for Japanese enthusiasts, as well as various gifts and card items you can look through. The customer service is also overall, fast and responsive, except lunch times are a bit busier. I like to sit here sometimes and browse collections and it's just a comfortable, nice atmosphere to do that - which is good news for book enthusiasts. Recommended.
I love this store. Amazing selection of books, especially if you are into art, music, comics, graphic novels, anime and manga. It also has a great feel, and a wonderful children's section overlooking Town Hall. They also host so many great events and activities.
A wonderful bookstore located in the city. It has a wide range of books. The space is large enough to be able to peruse the books in peace and quiet. Located at the top of Galleries Victoria. I highly recommend you go here if you are looking for a specific book.
If you're looking for a specialist book store than can sell you a Japanese or Chinese book, you could try here, because they have a great range.
If you have specific tastes in comics, manga, and several niche art/craft/design topics, you could try here, because again their range on such books is good.
On the other hand, Kinokuniya is pretty hit and miss with their pricing. Their stationery is disturbingly expensive, and I suspect most of their stock is also overpriced. You can really only find a good deal if you (a) can't find any other store in Sydney which sells the same item or (b) be unfair to their business and simply sit there reading the whole thing without buying it.
I'm a pretty avid reader and this book store caters to my eclectic tastes like no other. there are better specialist stores around but as one stop shop this is the best sydney has to offer. guaranteed to help you waste an hour or four.
This book store is huge. But the reason I like it the most is because it has the cheapest graphic novels in the whole of Australia (as far as I am aware). They also have a very large range of manga. The other reason is that it also has the greatest stock of poetry. Nowhere else seems to care about poetry at all.
