An oldie but still a goody. Locals love the Brekky Creek, and this historic pub is certainly worth a visit for out-of-towners. Built in the 1890s, it is famous for its steaks – everything from a T-bone to a filet mignon with a choice of mushroom, pepper or chilli sauce. There is also a selection of seafood and other dishes. Multiple bars and the popular Spanish garden steakhouse will cover your eating and drinking desires. And it’s one of the few pubs still serving beer from wooden kegs.

Now in its 118th year, the Brekky Creek celebrates 40 years of grilling its famed steaks. Catering manager Melinda Venning has been at the watering hole for much of that time (21 years). Meat lovers should try the 1824 rib on the bone or the rump, and each steak comes with coleslaw, a potato with bacon topping, and mushroom, chilli, or pepper sauce. A wide range of wines is available, and non-beef eaters will find fish, chicken and vegetarian lasagne.

The result is a stylish mixture of old and new, with the classic old sandstone building juxtaposed with a sleek, modern beer garden and contemporary bars.
What's kept the Brekky Creek Hotel going so strong for so long is its steak.
From rib fillet to rump, every cut in the meat cabinet is the most gorgeous crimson colour, incredibly fresh and super-lean. It gets carnivores salivating, and might even be enough to turn vegetarians to the other side.
My guest went with the classic eye fillet with mushroom sauce and the pub's famous coleslaw and idaho potato. I chose the wagyu striploin with pepper sauce, coleslaw and idaho potato.
We started, however, with half-a-dozen oysters kilpatrick.
