With a real pub feel, the Bull and Bear in Melbournes CBD is known to be one of a dying breed with all the contemporary pubs and restaurants opening up. The drinks are cold and reasonably priced and the menu for lunch and dinner is sizeable. This bar allows you to pre order your food if your going to be running on a tight schedule!

Let me preface this review by stating that I dont really know where the Bull & Bear Tavern are positioning themselves. Theyve avoided the modernisation bug that seems to have taken hold of many pubs in & around Melbourne. Basically, this place hasnt changed much in 15 years. Is that a good thing? Well thats what Im not really sure of. It doesnt have any kitsch appeal. It doesnt come across as a Ye Olde English wannabe pub. It kinda feels like one of those old man pubs, but then patrons dont fit the description & it takes up a fairly good spot on Flinders Lane. So what is this place? What is it trying to be? All I can guess is that its not trying to be anything. Its just a pub. Its got a decent variety of beers on tap, the food is serviceable, the service is acceptable, the dcor wellunchanged. Basically, this place is OK. Theres not much more I can say without understanding its motivations, so lets just stick with OK
