So delicious. Definitely a place for a special occasion. I have to say though I probably wouldn't go here with my friends or perhaps even on a date but I have been here a few times with my family and it has been very enjoyable. The first couple of times we were seated upstairs but when we went last week we were downstairs which I think I actually preferred. The whole place is great - it is very old Italian style with art everywhere. It feels like somewhere you would dine at in Italy. However the upstairs is very quiet and felt very proper. Downstairs has more of a bistro feel and buzz. Plus there is a long narrow window along the kitchen letting you see the chefs running around in there. I had the signature truffle pasta for entree which I usually avoid because it looks so rich, but since no one else in my family was ordering it (which meant I couldn't have a taste of theirs) I decided to order it and it did not disappoint. I absolutely love truffles and thought it was divine. Its not something I would usually choose to eat as it is very rich and creamy but it was so delicious and I gave everyone else at the table some so that it didn't spoil my main. When they bring the pasta to the table it has an egg on top, which they then cover in Parmesan cheese and toss together in front of you letting the amazing smell of truffle drift up towards you. For main I had pan fried snapper on a bed of zucchini flowers, mint and zucchini with a parsley sauce. It was one of the best fish dishes I've had. For such a simple dish it was so deliciously full of flavour! We shared two desserts - my favourite was my choice of the nougat semifreddo which has all these little crunchy sweet bits all over it - it's amazing. I love it and wish I were eating some right now.

Buon Ricardo = Pricey but divine. The signature truffle pasta seemed to be a tiny serving but upon tucking in left no room for mains or dessert (it should really come with a warning on the menu). Waiters were very attentive and it was an enjoyable experience, through not one I will be repeating too often due to the incredible richness of their dishes. Try at least once.

Buon Ricardo has received 2 hats (out of 3) from the 2007 Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide. My older friends love the place so we were looking forward to our first visit to this Sydney instituion. The signature dish Fettuccine al tartufovo was sublime, tossed at the table. The duck, whilst crisp and tasty was hard work after the pasta (my own fault there). The service to start was patchy (our bottle of champagne ended up being served accidently to another table) but the service improved during the night (and they quickly offered to credit the champagne at the end of the evening). Overall a very nice meal and well suited to the media and banking powerbrokers of sydney - but for me it was a little stuffy, a little too old. I'll probably go back and try it for lunch as its well suited to my post 45 yo old clients who I think will love the place.

  • A little rich

    Friday, August 27, 2010

PLACES for the immaculately groomed and financially resplendent are rarely fun and almost always bastions of food mediocrity.

"The Ciprianis... made, a long while back, a remarkable discovery: that rich international ----tards like to hang out with each other and eat marginally decent Italian food - and are willing to pay outrageous amounts of money for the privilege. Better yet, all the people who want to look like they, too, are rich international ----tards will want to get in on the action as well."

    SMH Good Food Guide 2009

Jacketed waiters still glide through the art-filled dining room as if choreographed and the food is wonderful. Armando Percuoco has welcomed back Buon Ricordo alumnus Darren Taylor to the kitchen. Seamless transitions are a hallmark of this Paddington landmark, and neither the service nor the food has skipped a beat.
