The food looks appetising at this Castlecrag lunch spot but the chef needs to be let off the low-kilojoule leash.
When Annie Parmentier, a perfectionist with a marvellous palate, ran Lunch in Castlecrag, she turned the suburb's shopping centre into the "It" place to have your midday meal. Four years ago she sold Lunch and packed herself and her pots and pans off to Hobart. A year ago, Lunch became Burley's, named after the landmark American architect, Walter Burley Griffin, whose small, avant-garde houses are a heritage-listed feature of the suburb's landscape. It's more a casual cafe than a restaurant, morphing into a gourmet pizzeria at night. It does brisk business at lunch, especially on the weekends. Sunday is traditionally family day. In our family, we didn't gather around a roast but came together at the same restaurant every Sunday. Guided by my steak-and-schnitzel-loving father, we preferred our food fried or char-grilled and piled high on the plate. These days, the fare at family restaurants is a far cry from this kind of finger-lickin', heart-stopping food. As at Burley's...
