Hello......
Just got back home from a night out with my mate Mel. This was our first port of call tonight. The service i found nice and swift. Pasta was good but the pizza average. On the bear side. Wouldn't be back in to much of a rush to go back. Would like to go back. Coffee was good. Good place to just hang with friends. Inside and outside smoking section. Nice fish tank.

4 couples dining together arrived at 7.30pm by 7.45pm orders taken! Garlic breads & brushetta's arrive along with 1 entree of garlic prawns. Waiting, Waiting for the other entree's... waitress tells us "to wait the kitchen is very busy"
A seafood platter for 1 arrives! And the lucky recipient tucks in. 7 pairs of eyes watch & wait.
Waiting, Waiting...watching other tables eat & leave...9pm ask again to be told "very busy night in the kitchen you have to wait" we requested the entree orders be cancelled and just serve our mains. 2 mains arrive and the hungry people tuck in to luke warm microwaved meals. Waiting Waiting 2 more luke warm mircowaved main meals arrive. Then a 5th microwaved meal arrives. The last two meals arrive, the grilled atlantic salmon is raw in the centre although the side salad tastey. The veal was swimming in sauce and very hot from the microwave.
The man in charge offers us free coffee... just bring the bill we reply and we will go quietly.
Undeserverdly, we paid the bill in full.
Cafe Gioia you need to train your staff, telling paying customers to wait is bad business as is blaming a busy kitchen. You needed to apologise not make excuse's.
Thats 8 paying customers that wont be going back and 8 paying customers that wont be recommending this badly run restaurant to anyone.

Although packed with dinners early on a friday and looked very kid friendly the meals were terrible including the pizza. The special of lamb shanks had been microwaved as it was cold underneath. The pizza was just a margarita for the children but utterly tasteless. Also much more expensive than better restaurants on the norton st strip. The service was good and they were child friendly but I wonder how it stays in business with such poor food. -

The best meal I had of the night was the Potato Gnocchi with three cheeses. I absolutely demolised that meal and it was good value for money.
Their bruschetta is also something good to try as well.
Service was a bit slow but the staff came back and updated us on our meals which was great and they are friendly people.
It has a nice relaxing feeling to the cafe indoors and outdoors.
Great to have your lunch or dinner there.
I recommend this place.
