Le Chien is a good little laid-back local in Seddon.
SEA CHANGE comes in all shapes and sizes these days - there's dam change, tree change and even a side-of-the-river-change. This is when disconsolate trendies from Fitzroy and Carlton relocate over the Shepherd Bridge to Yarraville, Seddon or Footscray and then keep telling you about how much nicer the lifestyle is over there and about how much more their cute cottage is worth today. Maribyrnong-change is often followed about two years later by nappy-change. But it's thanks to this gentrification that Seddon has become a bustling little hub and that cafes like Le Chien have popped up. Made from two shops knocked together, the windows open onto the street and on one side is a bench where you can perch and view. Otherwise the seating choice is between banquette tables and a couple of large communals with benches and stools. There are burgundy curtains at one end and a huge mural that looks like a subverted Chinese propaganda poster at the other. I've heard it can be manic here at...
