CAFE Mama at Windsor makes children welcome, but it also caters to adults with wholesome food and superb coffee.
This is because it's a cafe that welcomes children rather than a children's cafe, and when we visited, there were three burly construction workers sitting outside in the sun, a middle-aged couple inside and only one rug-rat in the play area, who thankfully shut up as soon as food was put in her mouth. If you don't like children, you're reasonably safe after 11am.
And if you want to encourage your children to enjoy eating out at somewhere other than the fast-fooderies, they're also open on Friday and Saturday nights for early family dinners.
Nor is the food as boring as you'd expect. It's not all Vegemite sandwiches, fairy bread and chicken nuggets, although they are available, and young William, aged 2, showed his approval of the fairy bread by gobbling up two big slices in two minutes, even if his mother and I thought the bread was not quite fresh enough.
