What a great place! We were passing through the area and thought we would drop in for lunch. Really great service, a young handsome gentleman by the name of Jered served us.The food was very nice! I had the fish and chips which was very tasty! (flathead - my favourite!) and my friend had the lamb shank pie, it was very generous and harty. Will definately be coming back to The Hughenden sometime soon! : )
An amazing young man was playing the piano on Friday evening creating a relaxed wining and dining atmosphere for our small gathering. The Hugenden Cafe Bar & restaurant is friendly and homely wrapped inside history, arts and literature. I highly recommend experiencing a night out at this wonderful establishment. Easy to park on Queen St as well.
Me and a mate dropped by on our way to a Swans game at the SCG.
A perfect place for some beer and food before the game.
The lamb shank pie was a massive size and i highly recommend it. My mate had the burger. it was a great old style burger. Nice selection on beers as well but they're not on tap.
Summing up prefect place for a pre game warm up!!
My wife and i came to the Hughenden for dinner last week and we loved it. We nearly walked by, but are very glad that we stopped.
We walked in through the reception of the hotel and were greeted warmly by the restaurant staff. We did not have to wait long, but decided to have some pre-dinner drinks at the bar. They make great cocktails!!! When we were seated we were told the specials of the day and were given bread and water. For entree we shared the Tapas plate and it was perfect. The combination of dips and breads was great. For main meals i had the lamb shank pot pie and my wife had the beef tenderloin. The meat melted in our mouths as the food was to die for, and the presentation was amazing!
We shared a souffle for dessert and it was great! Very light and sat perfectly.
We will definitely be telling our friends about this place and will be returning soon! Thank you very much for the great night!
I really enjoy Sydney. But from Canberra find some areas too busy for me. The Hughenden Hotel in Woolahra is so close to everything. I moved hotel from downtown when I came to the Hughenden for diner an eveing with a friend. The charm was so warm and the food was very good. I Really enjoyed the piano music. I am suprised the Hughenden restaurant did not have more people. A great evening.
I just came up with a mate to watch the football over the weekend and we had a great time. It was literally a 10 minute walk down to the SCG, and they had an early bird dinner special for the football (since it started at 7.30). The food was great and we had a few on tap beers too. A really nice get away and fun weekend away from the family.
I haven't been in an Arts hotel before - there's original illustrations by kids' authors in the reading Room and I ended up going to the Storytellers afternoon tea which was moving - really deep stories with this multi coloured quilt hanging. I bought an autographed book by Jackie French - Diary of a Wombat - signed by both Jackie French and the illustrator Bruce Whately. I know that's really hard to get, so it's in my special collection. There's just things to do there - I came up for the Comedy Store - free tickets with the dinner bed and breakfast package. The hotel is in the heart of the Arts area with Paddington markets, Centennial Parklands and Metro Cinema and Entertainment quarter - lots. I'm coming back. Just got to check out what's happening at the Hughenden - it's not like a normal hotel. It's more than that - lots of authors stay there too. It's just worth staying.
I stayed here over night with a friend who was in town. The rooms were so cosy and comfortable. The staff are so helpful and we ate in the restaurant too which was to die for. The breakfast was also included which was an added bonus - I love my cooked breakfast. Down the road from the shops, SCG and Fox studios too!
Great oldy worldy hotel in the heart of the action of Woollahra and Paddington. My folks like to stay here when they visit Sydney. Excellent service and excellent facilities. it's pet friendly too which is good for poochs!
