Went to Chipmunks for a farewell party. This was my first time, absolutely loved it. I have a 2yr old boy who loved the play area, everything was clean and in good repair. Food was promptly brought to our table and was great for the price. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the layout. Will definately be returning.
I attended my nephews party at Chipmunks Lawnton, All i can truly say is how appalled i was with the service and manners of the staff.
At the end of the day my sister was to upset to say anything.
We have spent of time and money at chipmunks, previously attending 3 other parties with friends and family. We always dealt with a happy a cheerful older girl who even catered to our needs with a broken arm - this girl even helped my friends daughter (who broke her arm) even through she wasn't working at the time.
Upon arrival to this party however, We were greeted by Sad, miserable staff, who were more interested in workplace gossip than placing our cake in a fridge, when we did receive the cake, the icing had practially melted.
Also why did my nephew receive a pair of socks as a gift? My Brother In Law - who was extremely angry asked for another gift to receive a drink bottle that was rather girly.
Another issue was food. It arrived Luke warm, and several children had missing nuggets. When i approached the counter a sulky looking staff member at the coffee machine, said they would sort it out, to no avail or eye contact. I felt like the whole day i was ignored. I then found the "host" to complain, (after 45 mins of searching) only to be dealt with another teenager who brushed me off with better things to do.
I honestly do not know what has happened with chipmunks as it WAS a great place to attend. But now, being constantly greeted by rude and uninterested staff and management that myself, my family and my mothers group will no longer be attending chipmunks or any chipmunk related parties in the future.
The day was ruined for my nephew, his friends and family.
As a parent I cannot disagree more with the previous comment. The comments referring to the child playing with a plastic knife and the unsupervised children boil down to the simple matter that it is UP TO THE PARENTS to control and ensure their childrens safety. There are plenty of signs up in Chipmunks stating this and unfortunately you will find this is the same in pretty much EVERY PLAYCENTRE! This is not a staffing issue, this is a parental issue! As for being told about the safety of her child while on the bouncy castle - this indicates to me a conflict in the story since the staff obviously do care about the welfare of the children!
We've been to Chipmunks at least fifty times and our daughter loves it, and yes there are some dubious children there at times, the kickers/biters the ones that sook - these are just symptoms of being a child unfortunately and I certainly wouldn't expect the workers at Chipmunks to try and manage the psyche of a three year old, It's a playcentre not a psychologists lounge room! Anyway - enough from the defence, the only thing we ever thought they could do to improve is employ the same system as other local playcentres. Some issue the child with a ticket on entry and this is married up with a copy given to the parents. Then when you leave your asked to show the receipt which marries up child to parent, we do like that as a safety precaution but other than that we have always found it a great place for our little girl to run around and enjoy herself in some great activities. Me thinks someone is a little too overprotective in the wrong areas, I mean at the same token would you complain about the playcentres in Westfield not being manned by the cleaners?! It just doesn't make sense. The only suggestion that could be made to the previous poster is if you don't like it - go elsewhere, everyone else is happy!
I also recently attended a party at Chipmunks and I'm sorry but I disagree with your statement. I know there are signs up re parental supervision and of course there should always be parenal supervision but Chipmunks charge a high fee for children to use the facilities and the signs will not hold up in court if there was a reason to go to court. They must provide supervisin similar to that of places like "Wet and Wild" where there is always a staff member there to say if children are too young or too rough on the activities. I witnessed older children opening the gate of the under 5s area and Chipmunks need to provide higher gate opening mechanism to ensure an 11 year old child cannot let a 4 year old out of the younger children area and onto the high slides.
Staff seem too young to care, had no interest in the children just wanted to hang out in the cafe talking. I held a birthday party there, our cake was given to another party, we had booked and paid for 10 when only 8 turned up, they didn't seem to think that we would want the extra 2 food packs, after a lot of explaining we had paid for 10 we still never got them! I had to tell the cafe staff that there was an older child with a disposable plastic knife on the slide trying to carve it up and their response was that it was not their job to supervise the children! What about the ones left there without parents?!! Older kids were terrorising little ones and they had taken over the toddler area so my 2 year old couldn't go in there, when I let her on the bouncing bigger structure while I held her hands I was told to get her off as she was too little to be there. Other then that time there didn't seem to be anyone watching anything, the food was average, expensive and a very long wait for a cold coffee! Trying to organise our party was a nightmare as the person I had to speak to was never there, several emails were never answered, nobody knew anything about it and I ended up having to go down there the evening before to have it all paid for before they would give me a booking confirmation! Total nightmare!
