They were quick to respond to my phone call and arrived on time. However, they charged $400 to change a washer on my tap and were going in 15 minutes. I will never use them again.

Absolute rip off. Charge $884 to come out at 7pm on a Saturday night to change two washers. Just took advantage of a desperate situation. Never use them

This is the note I wrote to the company....
I wanted to let you know about the very positive experience I had with your company yesterday.
You were able to have a plumber at my home within an hour and a half of my request, the plumber (Peter) rang before arrival as a courtesy to let me know he was on his way, he completed a quote in a few minutes and then completed the entire job in under two hours.
Peter cleaned up after himself and could not have been more co-operative.
On the same day I found myself on the "Telstra merry-go-round" and the contrast between the two companies was astounding.
Whatever you are doing from a training perspective is achieving outstanding results in my view and I will recommend you to my friends and neighbours.
Peter, when asked, gave a glowing reference for your company and came across as a committed and valuable employee.
Your telephone staff were also outstanding, very clear and knowledgable while being extremely helpful.
All in all and extremely positive interaction from a customers perspective.
    Thank you.

The staff arrived in the 2 hour window. Staff was polite. They charged me $172 to change my shower head to a water saving one. I provided all the parts. It took an hour even with them answering a number of phone calls. I questioned the price. They said they had a book they looked up the prices in. If it hadn't have been for the $68 call out fee I wouldn't have gone ahead with the job. I don't think $172/hour is a fair wage. It was an easy job that should've taken half an hour.

In response to the issues raised I offer our side of the story.
Our clients are informed at their initial phone call that a dispatch fee of $68 applies PLUS the cost of any accepted job quoted. They may decline at this point. Upon arrival our plumber presents a written UP-FRONT quote at which point the client may again decline.
The vague description of a "shower head" replacement neglects to reveal that the existing shower ROSE was replaced by a SHOWER RAIL set up which has hidden associated risks that include drilling through an in-wall pipe during the process (which we are obligated to repair at our own expense).
The two calls taken and made by the attending plumber have been proven to be job related and have no bearing in this case.
Broken down it was $120 for the physical work, $12 GST and $39.95 for the 12 month maintenance agreement.
The complainant also neglects to mention that our plumber also fixed a problem of no water to her basin tap, which he rectified FREE OF CHARGE

It's true. My husband misunderstood the call out fee to be the cost of the job. That was his fault for not listening properly. We wouldn't have gone ahead had he heard correctly.

My cold water wasn't working because I had forgotten I had turned off the tap under the sink when I went on holidays. The plumber turned the tap back on. I can't imagine anyone charging anything for that.

The fact is they charged $172 for less than one hour's labour. I had to go ahead with the $39.95 maintenance agreement or they would've charged me $261.80 for less than an hour's labour. $172 is their discounted price - if you can believe that. They had the audacity to tell me it was cheap.

You can make your own decision about them. Or better yet avoid them. Plenty of other plumbers will quote for free.

Called a plumber out to change the washers in one of the taps in the bathroom. After looking at the taps they said: "Okay, I will put together a quote."
They disappeared for 45 minutes and came back with a quote for changing this washer....
    $1040.
My queries of "For what, exactly? How long will this take?" - were answered "Less than an hour".
I refused and sent them on their way - sans a $70 callout fee.
study that quote first before considering calling Chiswick Plumbing for anything at all.

The bloke turns up an hour late, and tells me a need a new hot water service, and it's got to go outside as it is now illegal to put them in the cupboard where the old one was. He firstly quotes me $4500 for a straightforward removal and installation, then reduces it to $3500 when I balk. It took him an hour to do this. Ringing around, the big companies (AGL, Energy Australia) are talking about doing it for $2500.

Luckily for Chiswick they charge a $68 call-out fee, which was ultimately worth paying just to see the back of them. Never again!

Chiswick completed the installation of this Storm Water Tank on 27/4/10. Unfortunately, the "monster" decided to float instead of collecting storm water last couple of days. You have to work with someone you trust. How can you pay $20,000 for a Nightmare? I don't think I will give them a second chance. Why the consumers have to accept all the excuses and being victimised? My application is ready to go to CTTT.

We've now investigated a quote that we received from Chiswick Plumbing in 2007 and have the problem identified with and the solution is definitely different and cheaper. At the time, we had the same job done twice because CP didn't do it correctly, so we ended up paying them twice. How dumb were we.
    • NightM Newbie
My case is even worst. I gave them 2 big jobs a few months ago with a total amount $37,000. They are the most expensive quotes. The assumption "You pay more for good service and quality" was WRONG. Very bad experience. Never assume what they have told you is true. Watch carefully, they cover there mistakes. They damaged the electrical wire outdoor and covered the exposed wire with concrete! I took photos and managed to get it fixed by CP. There staff are very eloquent and sounds "honest". They promised one thing onsite and the "supervisor" at the office denied everything. Absoultely no sense of responsibility. They can even send you email to justify their wrong doings without any apology. Don't get trap by their marketing & promotion. I didn't even get my "movie tickets" after all these misery. We are in the process of taking legal action re negligence and fraudulent!!! Yes, certain part of the job we paid twice and you discovered CP didn't do it correctly. What a mess!

Might have a nice phone manner and arrive on time BUT changing the quoted price after they arrived and adding a so called 'membership' fee is not appreciated.
    • Chiswick Newbie
The claim that we "changed the quoted price after we arrived" is false, as it is our policy that we DO NOT give a fixed price until we arrive onsite. Once we are on-site and analyse the work that needs to be done we then give you an up-front, fixed quote, which you would have had the opportunity to decline or accept BEFORE we started the job.

Most clients will insist or ask for a "ball park figure" over the phone when they call, for which we advise them that we can't give a FIXED price until we are onsite.

The "membership fee" you refer to is NOT a fee at all, it is a maintenance agreement "option" which you are/were also given the opportunity to accept/decline at the time of quotation.

If you have misunderstood our company policy or have any concerns regarding our service, we would appreciate if you contact us to resolve any issues rather than posting misleading claims/comments in a public forum.

Mr Chiswick. I dont see the point in contact someone who has not provided a service to my satisfaction for them to provide some sort of explaination??? Why? Your services are chosen from a long list of providers and you should be able to deliver in the first instance. Not on the second.
I apologise for calling it a 'membership fee' when it was a service agreement that was not properly explained as optional until questioned and questioned again.
I was given a 'ball park' figure over the phone with a $20 difference, which i was happy with but then this was well exceeded on arrival.
All I ask is that you please provide more transperant services to future customers, as I will not be one of them.
      Thank you.
