So we managed to make a booking for the North Melbourne City Edge apartments for me and my girlfriend for $43 each per night due to its opening special and were pretty excited considering it's new and it's quite close to the Melbourne CBD. We had booked a twin studio apartment in December, a month before.

We arrived to be told that there were only doubles left and that we had to take the double room. I didn't understand this, as we had booked a month ago. They blamed it on the site we had booked through despite the fact that we had called them after making the reservation and was reassured that the entire booking was fine.

There was no hairdryer as stated in the description, and the remote for the air conditioner was missing as well which meant that it could not be operated at all. I went down and made these things known to them and also requested that after the check-out time tomorrow, that could they transfer us to a twin room that was checking out.

They obliged the next morning and we were thrilled to move to our new room. Only to discover that the toilet had been blocked by its previous occupants. I went up to reception to ask them to repair it, only to be called at 8pm that night to say that it could not be fixed that day. The reception did nothing but reassure us it "would be fixed". It was only when I called the head office (and they said that in fact the problem had never been registered on the server) that they sent someone down with the keys to the cleaner's toilet so that I could at least access a toilet without having to walk down into the CBD. They could not give us a room swap with one of their other branches of apartments as they were fully booked out, so they said. They didn't do anything on Sunday as they said that their maintenance did not work on Sundays and that it would be too costly to send in an emergency plumber. That's understandable, but our bathroom was starting to smell....
After lots of phone calls to the City Edge head office and in-person complaints to reception, it took them 3 NIGHTS AND FOUR DAYS to send someone in to unblock the toilet.

I will not be planning to stay at this place or any of its other branches again.
