If this place had to survive side by side with any of the inner city cafes it wouldn't last a week!

About four years ago we had a lovely "High Tea" at this place and it was brilliant - the food was fresh and the service was brilliant. A year later we did the same thing again and the result was dismal - the food tasted like it had been sitting in a cabinet all day before we bought it.

So we thought let's give it one more go (21 Sept 2009) and have lunch a la carte. Well to cut a long story short the food was very ordinary ("you want fries with that" bistro style) and way overpriced.

Overall - The place is trying to cash in on its historical background and beautiful surroundings but unfortunately the food and the service is as inadequate as the menu is overpriced.

You'd be better off taking your own picnic and finding some cool shade overlooking the river...

I had my 21st party here and this place really did a fantastic job. Perfect for a small wedding or birthday/engagement/christening, this place caters for breakfast, high tea, lunch and dinners for a reasonable price. I love the old Queenslander look of it, and it has a beautiful view out over the botanic gardens.

I have sampled the scones and tea served in a pot for two and they were great. The setting is beautiful and scenery and surrounds are beautiful. Helpful staff too, but it's a long walk from parking for elderly people.

This is a special place for a daytime feast. Barry Humphries (aka Dame Edna) recently told Brisbane News it was his favourite Brisbane haunt, which stands to reason for an artist with a sensitive eye. Take a seat in the dining room of the Federation-style cottage, or on the terrace overlooking the gardens. Try an appetising breakfast, or later in the plum-glazed pork belly, with a wine from a list canvassing Aussie favourites.
