I bought one of their vouchers for a deluxe mani and pedi last year and was terribly disappointed with everything. Also, although they advertised that they have OPI polish in store (they do, but it is kept at a corner), we were only allowed to choose from really cheap nail polish. Like ULTRA3 (which only costs like $3 at a discount store?!!cos I have one at home myself). The whole experience was really upsetting and I would never go back again.
Firstly, it was hard to get a booking as the phone could never get through, my friends and I then went down to their shop in the city to book an appt, however the staff refused to entertain us, stating that they were closed. We then pointed out that it was only 4:50pm, and the sign clearly stated that opening hours were till 5pm. Staff then took our bookings literally from the crack of the door with us standing outside. seriously??!
On the day of my appt, (my appt was 3-4pm) I was 10mins late (my fault), however when I reached I was berated by the counter staff (the same rude one), who then spent 5 mins telling me that as I was late, and hence I could only choose either a deluxe mani or a pedi, not both (which was clearly stated on my voucher. The nail technician finished my pedi within 15mins, and the counter staff then said that I could have my mani since there was still time, and how nice of them that they were to give it to me. The whole deluxe mani and pedi experience took 25mins!!! Like seriously who ever has a deluxe mani and pedi in 25mins?? Also, another customer then came into the shop, and asked how long would the whole treatment take. The counter staff then replied around 30-40mins. If they already knew before hand that it would take 30-40mins, why did they make me choose between a mani or a pedi when I came in 10mins late??! Do the maths, my appointment was 60mins, I was 10mins late, the whole service takes 30-40mins (and mine only took 25mins).
My friend also noticed that their sanitation was not very good as she found stains on the towel that was put under her hands for the manicure. OVERALL, please think twice about going!!!
p/s: I am so sorry for ranting such a long review. It goes to show that it has almost been a year but I am still really upset about the whole thing!
I booked myself in to get shellac on my natural finger nails. There is nothing on the price list, but from what I've heard from friends it's usually between $30 - $40 to get this done. I walked out there having been charged $70, because they used "Premium Shellac product", 2 days later, my nails are looking very dull and as though there is no top coat at all, they are also chipped. I call them to ask how much Shellac is, the staff on the phone stammered a bit, then finally said "Ahh, $50". It seemed as though they just plucked the number out of thin air, even if that's the case, it's still $20 less than what they charged me last week!
DO NOT RISK IT
Awful place, avoid. Messge bank always full, so took 2 months of constant calling and me complaining to group-buy site to get an appointment. Poor quality and service. Save your money and try other places!!
I try calling so many times and no answer on the phone,no one will reply my email, the message bank was always full,The nail polish was just cheap old nail polish. There was no OPI nail polish as mention on the voucher,no base coat use aswell.I also had another voucher for facial, the dermalogica products as mention on the voucher before i left the room i checked them, half the bottles were empty and some expired, plus no steamer use on me.The staff told me the shop has open for 8 years, but when i check the website its open for 15 years,so which is the truth! The pedicure and manicure was worse ones i ever get, there are better ones to get at other beauty salons which are more professional. The nail polish never dried, because the staff mix it with the acetone.
I agreed all of you. I never come back this place again.
I did manicure and pedicure for $29, but full price say $110! Who pay for it??
even just for $29, no worth to buy. Worst place ever!! I wonder why the shop can run business with such a poor quority in the best place in CBD
It's all been said. No one answers the phone, message bank full, 'deluxe mani-pedi' was a quick file & buff and one coat of cheap polish (nails not shaped but filed down to nothing). I wish I would have read these reviews before I went - I would have thrown the voucher in the bin. AVOID!!!
This place is a joke! Terrible! I bought 4 vouchers to be used here. They never pick up the phone, reply my messages/emails or return my calls. I had to go there to book for an appointment. My manicure and pedicure was below average - they use really old nail polish, not much selection to choose from, most of the nail polish are either half empty or dried up. Then the staff told me that I could go right after they put the top coat on. Both mani+pedi done in 30 minutes!! They were still wet but they told me they have another appointment coming in! I also bought 2 vouchers for spa treatment (supposedly worth $100 each) WITH DERMALOGICA products. The whole session only took 30minutes and I DID NOT get any mask, steam therapy, etc that was mentioned in the deal. The so-called Dermalogica products were old and put there for show! Almost zero customer service. When asked, they just answered with 'that's the time allocated and there is another client coming in'. I will never go back to this place. This place should be shut down, it's right in the heart of the city!
I am writing to both SPREETS and OURDEAL bout this experience.
hi sexyfox, i've had a similarly unpleasant experience! it's outrageous. how have your complaints to scoopon gone? i'm stuck with 3 vouchers and it looks like i've to forfeit 2 if not all of them. thanks in advance for your help! christine
This is an update of my experience at City Nails and Beauty. After being unable to get through on the phone 99% of the time I had my appointment yesterday for a deluxe spa pedicure, mini manicure and eyebrow wax and shape. WELL, the deluxe pedicure was a joke, it consisted of a quick foot soak and scrub and then my nails were painted with old thick polish (10 mins all up). My nails were not shaped or the cuticles trimmed AT ALL (the whole point of a pedicure I thought??). The manicure consisted of the same old nail polish being applied so thick it never dried. My nails were not trimmed, filed or polished. I was then rushed out the door when it became clear I was not going to be forced into their up selling tactics of special hand treatments etc. It wasn't until I got down the road that I thought "what about my eyebrow wax and shape"?. Even though I had paid for it and was entitled to it I was just glad to get out there. I know they didn't forget what my package included . NEVER AGAIN!!! I have travelled all over the world and had some pretty ordinary manicures and pedicures but I have never had one as unprofessional and non existent as this. AVOID!!!
I would never go back here. They kept me waiting 25 minutes even though i arrived on time for my booking. The facial was only 25 minutes long and the beautician only spent 10 minutes with me at the most. I was told I was ineligible for some treatments because of my skin type but this appeared to be a good excuse to cut corners. My face was massaged as though it was an old piece of leather with no care taken at all. The "relaxing" scalp massage was approximately 2 minutes long but by that time there was no chance of relaxing after the poor treatment I had already been given. Thinking City Nails and Beauty... think again!
Message bank is always full. I was 3 weeks calling them and then had to make my appointment 5 weeks in advance, and I am very flexible.
Facial was advertised as a Dermalogica facial (I love Dermalogica) but only two products used on me were Derma. the exfoliation was just a brush cleanse. My extractions consisited of the staff digging nails in to two of my healing breakouts which are now active again. No steam was used before hand either. There was no mask it was an oily serum and I was left in the room to chat with the other staff getting nails done outside for 20mins!! After the terrible treatment while getting dressed again I noticed one of the professional Derma cleansers on the shelf "Anti-Bac Cleanser" This is a discontinued product from Dermalogica from about 3years ago! Please do not waste your time and money going to this place.
