Fresh, uncomplicated seafood dished up with truly sensational flavours is what you get at Claypots. A spectacular, steel octopus sculpture dominates the ceiling of the dining area. Begin your meal with a selection of tapas and then try one of the clay pots, filled to the brim with seafood of your choice On warmer nights head out the back to the courtyard. Bring your favourite bottle of wine as it is purely BYO although the newest edition to the venue is an adjacent wine and oyster bar where you can begin or end your evening. Also located at 153 Gertrude Street Fitzroy.

Don't go there for the service... but definitely go there for the food!
I went with my partner and we were advised they didn't take bookings and the bar was to busy for us to sit, so we wandered over to Big Mouth for drinks whilst waiting. After 35 minutes Claypots called and said a table was ready for us. The place was bustling and we ordered prawns in a chili broth to start and shared the stingray as a main... and both dishes were phenomenal! The prawns were HUGE and the chili broth was great for dipping bread in; the stingray was tender and not too filling and the cocktails we ordered were very well made. Price are not at all cheap, but apparently they go off market prices and they get their seafood fresh every morning so the menu changes daily. The service was obnoxious - our wait staff explained the menu wonderfully, but unfortunately some wait/bar staff seemed to have a lot of attitude. No sashimi or standard 'grilled salmon with a side of mashed potato' to be found here... but go if you love flavorful seafood dishes!

Dont know if I can complain about the service as there wasnt any.
Called the Restaurant earlier to make a booking and they advised they dont take bookings but was told please come by as we have a wonderful wine bar where you can relax and have a wine while youre waiting for a vacant table yeah right!!
Walked in and there were 3 people working behind the bar, and only one waiting at the bar. I take my seat at the bar and waited 10 minutes - no bar staff even spoke to me or offered me a wine menu or even acknowledged I was sitting there with no drinks in front of me. There was one other person standing next to me and one of the bar staff was attending to her, I had another bar staff walk past very slowly asked the person standing next to me are you right? (even though it was obvious she was as she already had 2 glasses of wine in front of her) walked past me, didnt even make eye contact then proceeded to the end of the bar to continue s.l.o.w.l.y drying glasses and talking to the other staff members. Totally unprofessional and rude. After a few minutes more, I walked out.never to go back again.

We first visited this place when there were hardly any customers. It was surprising to us to see such a wonderful selection of fresh seafood on display, yet only one or two tables. How that has changed over the years, with the place constantly getting packed every night. Unfortunately the food isn't as good as when the original owner was running and the service these days is a bit hit and miss. Still worth trying though. My advice, get there early, before 6.

Well I love the food and the rustic appeal. If you are into really good seafood then this is an experience.

Not sure what the guy up top is saying about the service as have never had to wait for long except when there are great acts playing in the bar and then the music is so good you can just jig a bit while waiting.

I do know the owner but would not comment if I had had bad experiences here. My brother did not like sea food and it was no problem for them to get him something he did like.

I have tried a lot of St K restaurants and this is pretty hard to beat although all of them have pluses and minuses. I think the only minus is that if somebody with you cannot stand seafood.
