Coffee Bliss is a friendly, independent cafe and gourmet sandwich bar, located in the quiet shopping district near Ferntree Gully station. Accordingly, my visit found it eerily - but peacefully - spacious, despite the presence of several other customers. It's a decent-sized cafe. Those seeking cosiness had best look elsewhere; decor and atmosphere are minimal, lost to large windows, lean chairs, clean, uncluttered surfaces and all the airy brightness they create. The culinary specialty of Coffee Bliss appeared to be custom-made gourmet sandwiches, the BLT of which was humble in appearance but sincerely delicious. Their range of cakes was less-than-staggering. I settled on a berry-crumble-slice, and made the mistake of agreeing that it might be better heated up. I blame the influence of the microwave for translating it into three coincidentally-arranged layers of different-coloured, sweet, tongue-scalding paste. Prices were standard. The staff were down-to-earth, bustlingly attentive, and best of all, happy to substitute ice cream for whipped cream to accompany dessert. Staff seemed to have a cheerful rapport with their local regulars, and I suspect that Coffee Bliss' menu and clientele will grow with time.
