We went there on Saturday night (5/11/11). Totally appalling. There were feral children everywhere, including a child aged about 5 squealing all over the restaurant area. She was spoiling it for other children too.
We were seated in extremely uncomfortable chairs - my partner and I both had the circulation cut off in our legs from sitting there for the time it took us to eat our 'meals'.
I attempted to order garlic bread (which was listed on the printed menu and blackboard) only to be told that all they had was a foccacia-style. I said that was fine; they charged me for a garlic pizza ($10) and we were delivered a tasteless cheese pizza on a bought/manufactured crust. Worse than a frozen pizza from the supermarket.
Main meals were awful - I had 'butter chicken' which was actually rubber chicken in tomato sauce, with 'saffron rice' which was actually undercooked white rice with some kind of food colouring (no flavour, hard and inedible). They had a chicken kiev which was overcooked with an unpleasant amount of oil, and an unwashed salad which they couldn't eat. At approx $20 per plate this was dreadful value and felt like an insult.
Staff seemed disinterested, and service provided to others around us seemed pretty hit and miss.
Our drinks were also quite poorly made, with an over-strong vodka and orange (unpalatable) and a bitters-drowned lemon-lime-and-bitters
I would only advise my worst enemy to go and eat at this venue.
Went to dinner at commercial tonight (Thursday). Ordered the veal shank (big mistake) Literally got a huge bone in the middle of the plate with a tiny bit of meat on the side!! Staff were lovely. Took the meal back & i ordered the Mediterranean Parma instead (Thursday special) Got a very ordinary parma (no Mediterranean in sight) but couldnt be bothered telling them again. Daughter had the chick schnitzel. Needed all her strength to cut through it. Obviously microwaved 1 too many times. Other child had kids fish n chips, OK and hubby had very ordinary spag marinara. Staff were lovely but Management and Chefs need to take a good look at their meals. Everywhere you looked, there were tables with half eaten meals. Obviously we were not the only ones that were not impressed with the meals.
Went out to dinner to the Commercial Hotel on Saturday night... the place was packed!
We (group of 14) waited to be seat and were seen to soon after arriving.
We ordered the mains and the general opinion that the meals were nice and all of the kids (7 of) all ate their meals . . . always the toughest critics.
I ordered the seafood risotto which was a little soggy however was still ok - with plenty of different seafood.
The staff were friendly and prompt with delivering the food despite the restaurant being fully booked and not accepting any walk up diners.
Just got back from having dinner here... Fantastic.
Was greeted with the service/duty manager who showed us to the table and explained the meals. He was knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure our dinner was enjoyable.
We had the kids fish and chips, adult fish and chips and graziers pie. All the meals were really well priced and of great quality - good wholesome food.
Would highly recommend going there (its no longer Sofia's - which is a great thing!)
