This is a great pub and always feels like a slight getaway from the hustle and bustle of King Street. Downstairs it still has a feel of an old man pub but upstairs its very funky! The beer garden is full of tables and stools and surrounding a garden of black boy trees, its got a nice feel and very modern and airy. The bar is good, it has a great selection of wines and and quality beers on tap. The menu is good the pizzas are great and the risotto is delish and burgers are mouthwatering. There is an odd dish on the menu, haloumi wontons, which doesnt quite fuse as well as I think it is meant to but nonetheless its interesting! The service is efficient and friendly and its always a nice place to gather a bunch of mates. Am happy to have the Coopers as one of my local pubs!

Awesome beer garden. Crap pizza. Busy, buzzy sunday afternoon, get in early for lunch before it fills up! Nice summer breeze upstairs, great staff, trendy chilled out pub.

Coopers Arms is a nice establishment with a downstairs section that is best described as "an old mans drinking hole!" Well said! Downstairs, people tend to sip on their bevvies and stare at the tv showing sport, play pool or people spot through the windows adjacent to King Street. The upstairs section however has a totally different life...for a start, its 'snazzier' than the downstairs section and anyone elses expectation of what the 'average' pub may look like. The upstairs section has an outdoor open area where you can enjoy a meal or a bevvie and an indoor section where you can enjoy an exceptional casual dining experience. The food is quite good and reasonably priced, (though I would stay away from the oysters as they are not as fresh as they could be...) Coopers is very popular and should you want to dine there, making a booking would be useful to avoid disappointment. All in all Coopers is a really cool pub with food that I will continue to frequent.

The Coopers is a great pub on King Street, Newtown, which is still an old mans drinking hole downstairs but has been renovated and transformed into a great restaurant/outdoor area upstairs. The beer and wines available downstairs are different to those available upstairs with the upstairs selection being a little more sophisticated and a little more pricey. The restaurant area is great for big groups and I have organised several work dinners there as the extensive menu has something for everyone and Ive rarely heard complaints about the food. Ive also had birthday gatherings in the outdoor area there and apart from the fact that people are allowed to smoke out there (which is particularly frustrating if you are eating), it is a great place to sit on a sunny afternoon as it usually provides a good breeze and a great view out onto King Street as the sun is setting. The staff have always been helpful and flexible whenever I have organised anything there and if you dont fancy nibbling on the olive and dip platter you can always pop downstairs for a bag of crisps or peanuts!

The new Coppers upstair bistro has a fantastic new menu, decor and outdoor area. A great place to catch up with locals and friends. A great place to go before the movies or dinner. Well done to the Coopers!

Well the refurbishment may have been completed a while but I only was able to check it out last week. Not a huge fan of the new slick look downstairs but the upstairs bistro, bar and outdoor roof area is great. Food is excellent and in summer outside will be great (unfortunately I didn't venture out there cause of the cold).

Great pub on King St. The outdoors area upstairs is a great place to kick back and relax. The food is also really good, too.

Great pub to hang out. New Town has no shortages of pub, but this is definitely one of the better ones.

Don't let the oldies swaying in the front window during the day put you off! At night this is a great place for a beer and a perve, whatever your pursuasion.

New renovations upstairs are a brilliant use of space. Overall the refitting is great because they haven't turned the pub into a wanky wine bar. It's still a pub. Love it, although some of the regulars can be a little rowdy.

  • The Cooper's Hotel

In the wave of upgrades that has swept the pubs of King Street in Newtown, the Cooper's Hotel escaped with just half a facelift.

Downstairs, it remains a comfortable local watering hole, the sort that has attracted poverty-stricken students, footy-loving locals and the odd bikie gang for decades. Upstairs, the gentrification of the area is reflected in a new restaurant and an upmarket wood-panelled deck. We head upstairs on a busy Friday night and find ourselves in a throng of office workers. The building's facade has been kept intact, so the sleek, open-air area is walled-in on all sides. We perch on stools in the centre of the leafy space, filled with happy chatter and that generic, Latin-sounding music all bars seem to play. Looking for something swish to drink to match our surrounds, we approach the bar. Despite the extensive changes, there is no cocktail list. Relieved, I ask the young female bartender, sporting a bandanna and a lip ring, what's the best mixer they have on offer. "Have you ever tried a wet pussy? I could make you a long one," she offers. Holding back a giggle, I nod cooly and...
