The Courthouse Hotel in Newtown is a cosy local with an old school pub feel to it. There are football jerseys and memorabilia proudly on display inside and a beer garden where you can soak up some afternoon sun.

Great Courtyard and a wonderful place to meet up with friends and catch up over a drink on a sunny weekend afternoon. The haloumi dish is worth trying.

Such a nice and rustic pub with plenty of chracter and just plenty of the good stuff in food and drink. Prices reflect the Newtown area.

I do need to mention that they no longer take bookings on the weekends, which means its hard to plan any kid of meeting which involves more than four people. Otherwise it hasn't lost a beat and is well worth a visit.

This is a fabulous old pub - I hadnt been here for ages until the other weekend. I remembered they had a great bistro, and luckily nothing has changed. There was a choice of vegetarian options which was nice and I chose the vege burger which was one of the best I have ever had - with a delicious rustic homemade vege pattie topped with tzatiki and salad, including avocado! Yum. It was amazing, especially as my expectation for vege burgers is generally pretty low. The other burgers on offer, also looked scrumptious which tempts me for next time. The Courthouse has a great range of beers on tap and a nice array of wines to choose from. Its a no frills, old school pub, with a lovely easygoing atmosphere and a great beer garden. Its perfect for a summer afternoon full of food, company and cold beer. I wont be leaving it for quite so long before heading back.

My favourite beer garden, and Bulmers on tap. Happy camper.

A real aussie pub, plenty of atmosphere and authenticity. The pub has a very relaxed courtyard down the back or tables in the sun out front watching the locals walk by. We love our lazy sundays at the Courthouse. My only gripe is it is an AFL pub. Beer tastes the same though.

Best beer garden in Sydney, and the one of the rare pubs where you can catch all the AFL action over the weekend. The only downside is the overpriced food and the staff have a bit of attitude.

The best pub in Newtown, and one of the best beer gardens in Sydney! You can't beat the Courty for a Sunday afternoon beer. Food is good, usual pub food and comes out pretty quick for the busyness of the place.

Good vibe. Even better if you're a Swans fan on game night. Beer garden is great on a warm arvo after work. Food is a little pricey, but nice.

If you’ve ever wondered where Newtown’s Goths, emos, punks, mums and dads drink on a Sunday, here’s your answer: they all rub shoulders in The Courthouse’s buzzing beer garden. The pub’s somewhat shabby exterior belies the high-spirited hubbub going on inside. The bar staff look like they’ve all just stepped out of an indie rock video, while the bistro does a roaring trade in no-frills pub fare. It’s a crazy, wonderful microcosm of Newtown life.
