Shoji are traditional Japanese translucent paper-backed doors, windows and room dividers, and evolved into their present style around the mid-11th century. The internal latticework, called kumiko, comes in a vast range of designs, from very simple vertical and horizontal patterns, to patterns and landscape scenes that are absolutely breathtaking in their complexity and detail. We specialise in shoji screens, and kumiko art featuring patterns that highlight the aesthetic beauty of this traditional Japanese craft form. We can provide a distinct and authentic Japanese feel to your home. Des, the craftsman, completed formal postgraduate studies in shoji making and installation at a college in Japan using traditional Japanese woodworking methods.
