The first cleaner I had for some time. She was good, reliable. But she had to stop working.

The second cleaner I had was not terribly good. They called me about 6 times within 24 hours. They came over the first time and I explained everything to them thoroughly and left written instructions. They did things I had explicitly asked not to do. Some things I had asked to be cleaned were just not clean. I discussed these things with them and/or left notes. There was no change or improvement. One time they turned up and only did half their time saying they had an appointment but demanded full payment (I home sick that day). Granted they said they would make up the time next time. I would have appreciated if they had told me this in advance rather than just expected me to comply. They asked me if I could find better job for them than cleaning, they asked if they could have furniture of mine that I assume they didn't think I was using etc. There has also been difficulty getting my house keys returned.

I requested with DelConway to change cleaners. But I experienced similar problems. Again about 6 messages to my work and home phones in less than 24 hours. Despite taking them through what I wanted done (and didn't want done) and written instructions, these weren't followed in full. After my experience with the previous cleaner, I didn't want to spend a lot of time trying to address these issues. I don't expect to have to train a cleaner. I also expect a cleaner to be able to follow basic verbal and written instructions.

I called DelConway to advise I didn't want to continue with this cleaner. They were indifferent. They didn't apologise in any way. They weren't interested in why I hadn't been happy with this cleaner. They offered me another one. I asked what faith or assurance could I have that the next one would be competent? They just said well if you feel that way then so be it.

So it's the luck of the draw with Del Conways. But don't expect they will be interested if you have a bad experience. I'm surprised how difficult it seems to be to find a good cleaner in the current economic environment.

Hi Kar, thanks for the helpful review above as it gives me an idea on what sort of things to expect when I hire a cleaner. I have a few questions on hiring a cleaner could you please provide some of your opinions on below questions as this is my first time?

I own a 3 bedroom house in Canterbury and I need a cleaner to do some weekly basic cleaning such as vacuum, dusting, bathroom washing etc.

      1) How much should I expect the cleaner to charge me for this? I was thinking around $40/hr. Is my expectation too low or too high?

      2) How much did the above company charge you for the cleaning? What were the scope of works involved?

      3) Did they charge you on hourly basis or per sq metre?

      4) Do you have other recommendation?

I apologize for asking so many questions but I was hoping that I can get some pricing ideas to avoid being ripped off before I walk into any of these offices. Thank you in advance for your time and your help.

      Cheers,

      Cas.
